Location of the Australian Museum

The Australian Museum main entrance is located on the corner of College Street and William Street in central Sydney, just across the road from Hyde Park and opposite St Mary's Cathedral. Nearest Metro Station is Gadigal and the nearest Train station is Museum.

Parking near the Australian Museum

There is no public car parking available at the Australian Museum. There is a bus bay and accessible parking drop off zone on William Street. We recommend parking at nearby car parking stations and metered parking in surrounding streets, or catch public transport.

Australian Museum visitors can park at Wilson Parking – 70 Riley St, Darlinghurst and 1 St Mary's Road, Domain.

Secure Parking

  • Secure Parking at the Hilton Hotel Car Park is a ten minute walk away, located within the Hilton Sydney Hotel on Pitt Street.
    Convenient to Westfield, Myer, QVB, David Jones and Hyde Park, you can park here to make your visit to the Australian Museum a visit to the city too!

Bus drop off zone

There is a bus drop off zone on William Street near the Group Entrance: No Parking Coaches Excepted 8am-5pm.


Accessible parking

There is currently no accessible parking available at the Australian Museum. We recommend parking at nearby car parks and metered parking in surrounding streets. Enacon Parking on Cathedral Street has 11 accessible spots and is a 3 minute walk to the Australian Museum. This route has no steps.

Groups entrance on William St

The main entrance from College Street, near the corner of William Street, is wheelchair accessible and can be found at what3words///ports.penny.winter.

The group bookings, bus and accessible drop off zone entrance is from William Street and can be found at what3words ///clap.bunch.among. This entrance is generally locked and opened by our staff for group access to the the Lower Ground (LG) level Education Rooms, Members Lounge, Cloaking Room and toilets.

Pram parking

You can park your pram indoors in the pram bay in Hintze Hall on Upper Ground floor or opposite the Billabong Waterhole kiosk on Level 2. The whole museum is pram-friendly, with lifts and ramps throughout.


Public transport to the Australian Museum

Trains

The nearest train stations are St James, Museum and Town Hall Train Stations. Each are of equal distance to the Australian Museum and are an easy 7 minute walk through Hyde Park.

If you have a stroller or wheelchair, please note that your journey through Hyde Park will end in stairs at each of the museum corners on College and Park Streets. A level exit is available at the St Mary's Cathedral pedestrian crossing if coming from St James Station, and at the corner of College and Liverpool Streets if you are coming from Museum Station.

Metro

The nearest Metro train station is Gadigal Metro Station and then a five minute walk along Park Street to the Australian Museum, with the main entrance on the corner of College Street and 1 William Street, Sydney.

Buses

For bus services arriving in the city centre, alight near Hyde Park or Town Hall and walk east along Park Street towards Kings Cross - a 7 to 10 minute walk.
