And the thing is that Signalis and especially Ten Metre Tide have better prose than any novel I've read that was published in the last 20 years
#logxx#Ten Metre Tide especially bc part of the gimmick is the narrator is an aspiring novelist#And it does a reallyyyyy good job of engaging with Authorly Prose while still portraying the narrator as really... unrefined in her art#But Signalis is fucking crazy because I've only read it in English. And Yuri Stern did their own translation of Signalis from German#... IT IS A SELF TRANSLATED WORK AND THE PROSE IS STILL THAT GOOD

#logxx#Like Marx/Engels do identify a proto-communist form of production prior to feudalism but this isn't really comparable to true communism#And um the entire fucking point of that book was that incest only arises With the family as a legal institution#And that inbreeding is not the same as incest.#Like it was literally the invention of private property that gave cause to invent incest and incest cannot 're emerge'#In a post-family society sure inbreeding is inevitable and would probably be less stigmatized but 'incest' as such would literally not exis#Because incest is a social phenomenon not a genetic one
