i think what i find most bothersome about the sports and gender discourse is the complete failure to internalize anything about overlapping normal distributions... like if you go to any gym in the country you could find a woman who could beat a solid two thirds of the male population at any sport you choose. everyone remembers the sporty girls who were among the better players in grade school PE. co-ed casual sports leagues are everywhere and often quite successful.
it's only at the elite competitive level, a level that a tiny fraction of a percent of the population of either gender can even aspire to, where the notion of parity becomes farcical. and that is the area people are choosing to make their focus.
#it especially pisses me off because like#sure maybe there are hard upper limits in a general sense and maybe a testosterone based system#will build muscle easier in a specific way to be more fit for whatever#but Also how can we even use the data we have when the social climate discourages people afab from like#ever pursuing that kind of strength to begin with#pushes out any of them who DO have higher T levels because of transphobia intersexiam etc#tells them You are a man if you have this and you are disgusting#so naturally they don't want to fucking do it#and then be like well I guess it's just biological fact huh I guess so#clarifying they also and especially push out trans women for that very reason
