batwing continues to be such a disturbing read. the optics of a Black African cloaked in a White man's tech referring to his Black opponent as "naked" by comparison. the absurd number of Black African side characters gruesomely murdered in the first few issues alone – one of them being David's surrogate mother figure. the visceral violence David himself is subject to at the hands of the antagonist. the reveal that there have been several prominent Black African superheroes who were simply out of focus until now, overshadowed by the Justice League of America. the subsequent reveal that these African heroes were also gruesomely murdered. Batman as an ever-present White missionary figure, looming over the narrative. every issue features new & unsettling horrors. i hate it but i can't look away.
