Tomorrow, 8 March, marks International Women’s Day (IWD), a global celebration of the achievements of women and a call to accelerate progress toward gender equity. This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, challenges us to take bold steps in ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunities in all aspects of life and work.   On Wednesday, our staff gathered in Melbourne and Sydney for a thought-provoking panel discussion on experiences, challenges, and hopes for a more equitable future.   Speakers included one of the Future Fund Board of Guardians, Nicola Wakefield Evans AM and Future Fund staff, Stuart Webb, Director, Architecture & Infrastructure Services, Magda Zieba, Manager, Property, and Deniz Alev, Director, Tax Advisory.   The discussion sparked engaging conversations among our people, with many reflecting on how they can further contribute to gender equity in their own teams. #futurefund #sovereignwealthfunds #investing #wealthmanagement

This month, people across Australia, along with our Agency colleagues, are celebrating the many colours of the Pride rainbow at the Midsumma Festival in Melbourne and Mardi Gras in Sydney.   To support these events, the Future Fund LGBTQIA+ Affinity Network (Beacon) hosted an 'Ask Us Anything' afternoon tea and ‘bake-off’, where colleagues had the opportunity to ask questions to a panel of our LGBTQIA+ colleagues as well as sharing sweet and savoury treats. Congratulations to Kathryn for her winning submission, the Corporate Affairs Beehive Cake: "Free to Bee, Free to Beelong." The Future Fund Board of Guardians and Infratil today announced that they have signed an agreement to acquire additional shares in data centre developer and operator CDC from the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation. Increasing the Future Fund’s ownership of CDC is consistent with the Fund’s mandate to have regard to national priorities while delivering against a demanding CPI+4%-5% return target. As Australia’s sovereign wealth fund the Future Fund has a long history of investing in Australian infrastructure, including significant stakes in some of the country’s largest transport, renewable energy, forestry, and telecommunications assets. CDC is a sovereign data centre operator that enables a range of government services as well as powering domestic commerce for some of the world’s largest technology companies. In 2024 it contracted more than 300MW of capacity and significantly expanded its development pipeline. The Future Fund has implemented a new Investment Team structure as it continues to adapt to the changing investment environment. The new structure reflects the maturity of our organisation and supports our unique investment philosophy, further strengthening our ability to deliver on our long-term investment mandate. The Investment Team is now organised under five pillars that reinforce the Future Fund’s unique culture and our joined-up whole-of-portfolio approach to investing. They are: Portfolio Design, Real Assets, Investment Capability and Intelligence, Portfolio Risk, and Responsible Investment and Listed Equities. The new structure will be overseen by a six-person Investment Leadership Team including our DCIO and five newly appointed Managing Directors, reporting to Chief Investment Officer, Ben Samild. Mr Samild, who was recently named in CIO’s Power 100 for 2024, described the new structure as ‘…an evolution, not a revolution’ in how the investment team is organised. “This structure will support our joined-up whole-of-portfolio process and provide greater opportunities for cross-team collaboration and the sharing of diverse perspectives to enrich our thinking and decision-making.
