Everything was excellent - we loved our room with a view of the gardens. It was very clean and tidy. The onsens were wonderful - we used the private onsens. The stone onsen is hotter than the wooden onsen. The onsens were very clean with all the amenities you may need. Breakfasts were amazing, dinner was delicious, and the waitstaff was very gracious and helpful. We had a great time. I was able to borrow boots for the hike to the snow monkey park. We were given yukatas and we enjoyed the entire experience. The guests were also very kind and friendly. There was a surprise concert in the lobby one evening - a young accordion player from Tokyo entertained us with Brazilian tango music - so civilized!

Shibu Hotel is an absolute gem! The beauty of the property is matched only by the incredible hospitality and service. From the moment we arrived, the thoughtful touches impressed us – our names were on shoe cubbies and our room door. When we went down for the multi-course traditional dinner, we were met with a warm welcome by a line of staff who even placed name tags on our shoes. This dinner was a culinary masterpiece, truly one of the most incredible dining experiences of my life. The ryokan was impeccably clean, and our room was spacious and spotless. The food, especially the unforgettable dinner and breakfast, is an absolute must-try. A delightful surprise was the availability of generously sized yukatas that comfortably fit both my husband and me (both over 280 lbs). The hotel’s hot spring was pristine and beautiful, offering a tranquil retreat and a lovely outdoor hot spring. They also offered a private hot spring for families/groups for an additional charge. The level of service was truly exceptional. They took care of our car, and upon check-out, it was brought to the entrance, backed in for easy loading. As a final touch, they even wiped our car windows before our departure. Without a doubt, this has been one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had, and I've traveled to over 20 countries. I wholeheartedly recommend Shibu Ryokan!l

The food was amazing, both dinner and breakfast. Delicious, healthy, beautifully-presented and leaning heavily on locally-sourced ingredients, especially a gorgeous assortment of mushrooms. The staff were consistently wonderful, helpful and warm. Before we arrived, we thought that the ryokan was a little pricey, but once we saw the quality of the half-board, it became clear that it is in fact excellent value for money. A delightful surprise.

I highly recommend this ryokan. Dinner and breakfast was amazing. Onsen experience with family was great. We arrived by car and Akira managed to provide a parking spot for us. The rooms were spacious and futons were comfortable for us. Heating system works great during our mid winter stay. Toiletries and yukatas were provided. While we were about to leave, he is assisting some guests to be dropped off at Snow Monkey Park which I think is great if you have no car.

Great location, in house restaurant for breakfast and dinner, traditional Japanese Ryokan. Despite being a tatami mat with futons, the bedding was extremely comfortable. Free bus pick up from train station as well as free bus drop off to Snow Monkey park. Staff were very helpful and provided lots of information about what to do and how to do it. Shared bathroom facilities were quite basic but OK. The bonus is the key to the public onsens, all 9 of them.

The staff were superbly friendly while retaining the unique traditional ryokan atmosphere. The onsens were beautiful and entirely peaceful. Both the guest rooms and the dining rooms were beautiful tatami rooms that when paired with the yukatas really made you feel the atmosphere at its most. The shuttle bus service to the snow monkey park and train station was also incredibly helpful!

Loved the traditional Ryokan. Cosy rooms with comfy futon style beds. We had a room at the front with an indoor balcony that overlooked the street. Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, which was great. Staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English. They supplied Yukata and geta to wear out to the onsen - the closest was only 50 meters up the road.

Beautiful old ryokan with super friendly and helpful team; quality service (the pickup from the train station, the drive to the monkey park); delicious food and superb cappuccino. Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan. Try them all, walking towards them in traditional Japanese yukata and gets. Enjoyed every second of being here!
