Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI rated 8 because the bed sheets ,duvet covers and pillow cases have lost their brilliance while colour. I know they are being cleaned but they are looked a bit grey. This could be problematic for someone with OCD. The section we stayed has a bad drain smell. I think the smell is from the bathroom. Perhaps this is normal for the old town in Malacca.
It was a privilege to stay in this hotel with rich heritage. The place was beautiful and the facilities were very modern to provide comfort for the guests. The location is great for all Malacca old town exploring. The hotel itself is very beautiful with courtyard and an old water well and lots antique furnitures. We took lots of pictures. The roof top bar is very beautiful. There are free towels if you like to sit on the sun chair dipped in the shallow pool.

United KingdomBeautiful hotel. Modern amenities but they have conserved the original property well. We had a great breakfast in the cafe unfortunately it wasn't available on our second morning and the buffet breakfast wasn't so good. The roof terrace was lovely with individual shallow pools to cool down in. Great location in walking distance of main sites.

MalaysiaThe carpark area is quite smelly, maybe due to sewage. The rooftop area has the same smell, too. The bathroom is spacious and it would be great if there were more hooks for towels since the room is catered for 4 people.
Booked a family suite and room was spacious and had an outdoor jacuzzi, which was a pleasant surprise. Previously the room that I stayed had a tiny window panel. Location is great too!

United KingdomIt would be nice if more of the existing downstairs area could be used for breakfast.
The Baba House in Melaka met most of our expectations fully. We liked the modern interior with hints of by-gone years, cleanliness, warm hospitality, and proximity to Jonker Walk. Our room was comfortable and quiet. The only slight disappointment was the breakfast – limited options and quite crowded. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would certainly return.

SingaporeWell, the cost of the rooms were steep for Malaysia's pricing.
The location in old town of Malacca was amazing - Jonker Street was a stone's throw away - and the property was just lovely. Not to mention the smell of lemongrass that permeated every corner that was both soothing and rejunevating. Oh and the private car park was such a bonus as we had driven up.

United KingdomYou can buy soft drinks and tea in the lovely and very cool reception space, but there's no bar as such - but of course this isn't untypical of Malaysia. But there are loads of nice bars in Melaka (not least along the river), so it's not a problem even for a committed drinker like me... ;-)
This is one of the most superb hotels I've ever stayed in, for work or leisure. The moment you walk into reception you feel what a classy place it is. It's quite a new refurb, and everything is fresh and beautifully presented. Lots of displays showing aspects of the Peranakan culture that they're clearly very proud of. The Baba House is relatively expensive by Malaysian standards, but it really is worth it. The room was beautifully decorated, spacious and well-equipped (with every kind of bathroom freebie you can imagine and one or two I didn't - little bag for unused soap, anyone? :-) Great idea btw... ) The staff were all delightful and helpful. The location is excellent, on a lovely historic street parallel with Jonker Street and around seven minutes' walk from Dutch Square and the centre of things. Finally, Melaka is a wonderful little city and a joy to visit. Go if you haven't. :-)

JapanThe room rate is on the higher side. We loved the room, but you can get bigger rooms in Kuala Lumpur at this rate. The lobby air conditioner was too strong for us. The locals are used to it, but we were freezing.
Prime location in Melaka. All the tourist attractions are within walking distance of this fabulous property in Melaka. The interiors of this hotel have a Malaysian feel. The staff is attentive and check-in and check-out were a breeze. We also rented a bicycle from this hotel for a joyride around Melaka. I enjoyed my welcome drink in the nice courtyard of this hotel, which also functions as a movie hall on weekends. If the street food is not your cup of tea, there are quite a few nice restaurants near this hotel.

United KingdomThe breakfast was quite basic- but adequate.
Gorgeous interiors, very stylish, with cooling water features, and the courtyard at the front, set back from the street was a great place to have a drink, and they even had films projected onto the wall. I really recommend the restaurant adjacent to hotel (I forget the name - small plates). The food is superb, the people lovely, and they give a discount to hotel guests.

SingaporeThe initial room we booked had a smell of sewage that seemed to waft from within. This is not true of the eventual rooms we had. The lemongrass air-freshner smell which is a bit strong in the lobby makes it smell a bit like a bathroom.
This hotel is well situated and the rooms very nicely decorated. I appreciated the help given by the receptionist when we commented on the smell in our initial room, she helped by re-rooming us and we no longer had the issue.

United StatesBreakfast was ok, not really memorable . I can say the same about one dinner I had there. Staff was polite.
This is an immaculate, well located boutique hotel with endless time and thought put into the many details that give it its charm. It also has paid attention to security with multiple card triggered doors throughout. The ankle pools on the roof were delightful (although there was no one there to order drinks or snacks).

SingaporeThere’s a smell of sewage in the hotel which greets you as you enter the inner lobby. I recalled same experience when I stayed in Feb 2023. Cause likely due to enclosed structure of building. This can easily be solved with installing a few deoderiser on the wall throughout the hotel or putting essential oil burner throughout the hotel
