Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NorwayNo wifi, and the bed was so firm that I might as well have slept on a floor. A bit of dust here and there, but I did have to look for it in order to find it (I always do a little hygiene-check)
Good location and a simple place to rest. Nothing fancy.

ItalyThe room smelled of old cigarette smoke, ingrained in the curtains and walls. No amount of airing the room could get rid of it. We were enveloped in that disgusting smell for the whole duration of our stay.
The hotel is just two steps away from the train station. Lots of shops and bars nearby. The room was very small but clean and comfortable.

CanadaRun down hotel- bed spread had holes in it, wardrobe door was broken and didn't close and shower drain was clogged. They messaged me for months before we came threatening to cancel my reservation if I didn't give them my credit card, even though the room was fully paid for, and then they didn't even ask for it once we were there. Streets are noisy under the rooms. It was fine for our one night stay while in transit.
Great location with easy access to train station. We were able to walk to the attractions we wanted, lots of restaurants and shops close by. It was clean enough and a good price for the convenient location.

FranceIt was more an HOSTEL than a hotel (5 rooms closed into an apartment) 1/ The TV was installed into the wardrobe, then difficult to watch it as you have to open the door. And there were very bad signal so no one could see it (see photo) 2/ Water was falling from the upper apartment so we had our 2 pants wets. They were aware of that and just put back a table with towel up the bed to resolve the issue (second photo) 3/ Hacking: I received a lot of messages asking me to pay outside an account amount to secure booking if not my reservation will be cancelled. When I told it to the receptionist, I understood that he was aware about it and even can think that they are linked to that manipulation because I even received it in the booking site (in case of hacking, you can change passwords to avoid it happens again) 3/ Mandatory check out at 10:00 AM: the receptionist said that it is because they need to clean room and there is check-in at 15:00. By the way, we found 2 black hairs on the ground and my wife is blond. So may I suggest to instaure a check out at 06:00 AM!? ;)

MaltaThe doorbell outside was not working, so until you get the key, someone needs to exit before you can enter. Also, some maintenance needs to be done, ex. the bathroom door had a hole in it. But for the comparatively low price, it didn't both us.
The room was very clean with towels changed daily. There was a 24hr receptionist on the floor below ours, that covered a Termini hotel and another small hotel.

GermanyThe first room we received was very old and did not match the pictures online, also you could not sleep as you here outside noise(street also not good place for walk alone). Initially, the reception was unwilling to change it, but after some insistence, they agreed. However, the new room was also not in great condition, with dust everywhere. Since our stay was non-refundable, we decided to stay but only used the hotel for sleeping.
The location was convenient for getting around the city, and in the end, the staff did help us change rooms after some discussion.
