Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe TV in the room had no signal.
The hotel is beautiful, especially the courtyard where the restaurant is located. I strongly recommend that you opt for a room with breakfast. The breakfast was one of the best we had. We also ate an evening meal at the restaurant and the staff went out of their way to accommodating our dietary needs. The restaurant staff were exceptional.

A beautiful and classic hotel. From the reception to the room, everything felt warm, cozy and comforting. The food at the restaurant was amazing, and the staff was welcoming and polite.

United StatesSome of the waiters in the restaurant are unfriendly. But most are very kind and helpful. Of course it’s the unpleasant interactions that stand outs. There is also an unusual traffic pattern from the airport so expect extra time getting to this hotel.
The staff are very helpful and kind. The restaurant menu has many delicious items on it.

United StatesThe jacuzzis don’t open until 9am, I’m an early riser so it would have been nice to start my day in the Jacuzzi on the rooftop earlier.
This property is a beautiful gem with so much charm. The halls are filled with old photos, and library bookshelf, beautiful plants and indoor/outdoor feature makes you feel surprisingly connected to nature in the middle of the city. The restaurant was beautiful and the food was delicious.

CanadaThe beds were a little soft. I prefer a hard mattress, and is the style today, they had a pillow top. In fact those are not really good for your back.
The service and friendly staff. The ambiance of the old building and its quirkiness - lots of halls and nooks and crannies to discover. The hot tubs and roof top terrace were wonderful as well. The rooms were exceptionally decorated and quite comfortable.

United KingdomThe location isn't the nicest but it is a relatively short distance to downtown San Jose. Some of the restaurant staff could have been a bit friendlier, just because a restaurant has a great reputation, it doesn't mean you can be aloof when serving guests.
The food was excellent although expensive but that was to be expected. The decor and setting of the hotel was lovely and the room was very comfortable with a charming small patio area complete with water feature. The reception staff were excellent and very helpful as were most of the staff in the restaurant.

Monaco(This has nothing to do with the exceptional hotel !) - Location is good, if you want to walk into town or the Sabana park, but (as in many bigger cities) it is not advisable to walk around at night. Costa Rica is definitely one of the most beautiful countries on this planet, it deserves a much nicer capitol, unfortunately.
Beautiful place close to downtown (about a 45 minute walk). We booked to stay the last two nights before leaving Costa Rica. Very friendly staff, had one excellent dinner at the restaurant. Nice room with everything you need. Free parking just across the street.

United KingdomI booked this hotel to recoup after long flights from London. It was everything we needed. Spotlessly clean and comfortable. The hotel is very attractive, with lush planting and interesting features. My 10 year old particularly loved the rooftop jacuzzi. The restaurant was wonderful and has a kids menu for dinner. Breakfast was a highlight. The staff are attentive, particularly the waiting staff and the turn down service was good to have. All in all, it's a pretty much perfect hotel to rest in. We did venture to the local market and the art gallery. I wouldn't say there is much to do with children in the area, but we were there to rest before moving on.

United KingdomWhile the Hotel looks great from the outside, the surrounding streets are not attractive tbh. Security is clearly an issue with very high fences & razor wire something you would typically expect in South Africa. We eat our dinner at a local restaurant very close by and felt perfectly safe on our walk to/from the restaurant. The bathroom had a bath & stand in the bath shower with a nylon shower curtain, for the cost of the upgraded room I would have expected a walk in shower with glass walls. The water flow from the shower was moderate at best. The bathroom lacked any air extraction (an extract fan could have been installed in the glass of the small window). This window clearly used to open but is now sealed up so no way to clear toilet pongs which was a shame.
The Hotel looks attractive from the outside & a member of staff was ready to take our suitcases into the Hotel. We loved the original feel & design of the inside, it was interesting & characterful, you certainly cannot say this about most newer hotels. The Reception area had a stylish feel, as did the breakfast/dining rooms with a wonderful open courtyard available. The bed was comfortable with cotton bed linen, the AC effective & quiet & the room had a high pitched wooden ceiling which made the room spacious (no doubt one of the benefits of the room upgrade). We also liked being at 1st floor level with small trees outside the window. The bathroom & room were both in nice condition. The breakfast was served in the open courtyard and was an enjoyable experience, the food was nicely presented & delicious. We had a very minor issue with the room safe and we were very impressed that the Manager arrived promptly to unlock & reset the safe code. The Manager was the member of staff who provided outstanding service (explains why he's the manager).

This hotel is an oasis in San Jose. It is close to La Sabana park for bird watching or exercise, and has a wonderful world-class chef. We weren't intending to eat in the hotel all three nights, but the food was remarkable. The staff was helpful and friendly.
