We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe bed is old and tired, but we were reasonably comfortable for our two week stay With no aircon I’d think it would be get very warm in the accommodation at the hotter part of the year
The location opposite the beach was wonderful. The owners Rudy and Canoe were lovely and friendly and we loved all the artistic touches everywhere Having a gas stove and oven and a reasonably fitted out kitchen, and Starlink was great for our two week stay

New ZealandPoor wifi. Perhaps a couple of extra blankets in the rooms for cold evenings.
Spacious. Beautiful gardens. Very quirky and cute. Friendly owners. The local chickens weren’t too noisy. Everything was as advertised.

New ZealandThe pictures don’t do it justice, it may look a little dated, but we absolutely love it. It has direct access to the beach, where we watched the sunrise from one of the many benches or the beautifully designed deck, complete with sun loungers for sunbathing. One of the rooms is especially spacious, with plenty of windows letting in natural light and warmth. It also has a door that opens straight onto the deck. The villa is conveniently located near a gas station with a dairy mart that stocks pretty much everything you might need including hot packed meals at Auckland prices! We ended up not cooking at all because the hot food there was affordable. Next to the dairy is Villi's Burger, and just a short walk away is a small bakery and coffee shop(as Kanoe recommended). Tropical Sands is also just 2 km from Muri, so if I ever visit Rarotonga again, I would definitely stay here.

New ZealandNo major issues. A couple of the coffee sachets that were provided had clearly been there a little while as they were solid, but we ended up getting our own coffee from the convenience shop which is directly across the road (super handy!) anyway so it definitely wasn't a major issue.
We loved our stay at Tropical Sands! Kanoe and Rudy are wonderful hosts and the location is stunning! The beach is rocky and isn't ideal for swimming but it's a beautiful spot to explore, relax, look for crabs in the evening and listen to the waves. We also enjoyed a beautiful sunrise on the beach. We particularly enjoyed our morning coffee from our private little deck. The location is great as it's close to Muri where we enjoyed yummy food, the night markets and snorkelling. Our little beach house for the week truly felt like a little home away from home. We can't wait to come back in the near future.

United KingdomWe absolutely loved our stay at tropical sands! Location- very easy and convenient location, bus stop right outside the entrance. Amazing view of the beach. You can’t swim in the sea here but we spend many hours in the sun loungers on the beach. Short walk to a corner store up the road to grab groceries. Also, very yummy burger place next to the shop. Apartment- our apartment was perfect for the two of us. Plenty of space and very well equipped. Balcony was great for morning and evenings, great to watch sunrise too! Kitchen had everything we needed. Shower was very nice and bathroom was very spacey. Bed was super comfortable! All doors had lockable fly screen so we could sleep with the sound of the waves. All the decor in the apartment and across the whole site was very cute and fit the island vibe. Lots of great outdoor areas to chill too. The owners were away when we stayed, however Jan was incredible and so helpful for the duration of our stay. Anything we needed, she went above and beyond for us and always had lots of helpful suggestions of things to do and places to see. We were so grateful to her for making our stay so much more magical. I would definitely recommend a stay at tropical sands and one day hope to be back!

New ZealandNot having air conditioning.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Tropical Sands in Rarotonga for a week, and while it was a wonderful experience, there were a few areas that could be improved. The location of the resort is absolutely perfect - it's right on the beach and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The convenience store is a stone throw away. Bus stop literally across the road. The hosts are knowledgeable and truly willing to assist with basically anything. However, I did find the heat and humidity to be quite challenging, and the lack of air conditioning in our room made it difficult to get a good night's sleep at times. Despite this, the resort has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including well-maintained grounds. However, some of the facilities are starting to show their age and could benefit from an update. Overall, I would still recommend Tropical Sands to anyone looking for a relaxing beach vacation in Rarotonga. With a few tweaks to the facilities and the addition of air conditioning, it would be a truly exceptional resort. Rating: 4/5 stars
