Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe beds have curtains, so shared dorms have that little bit of privacy. Each bed has a light and plug. Brekafast included, the staff is very nice and helpful. Great location

United KingdomThe ensuite bathroom in the 8 bed female dorm wasn't the cleanest. Also, there was a lack of additional external toilets and showers (apart from one toilet downstairs), which made things frustrating when the ensuite bathroom was occupied for long periods of time.
Great location (in walking distance of most landmarks and districts). Bed was spacious and comfortable. Suitable for a 2-3 night stay. Complimentary breakfast was good, including the basics such as coffee, bagels, cereal, porridge, and fruit. Comfortable communal spaces. Friendly and helpful staff!

SwedenWould have loved if the rooms with beds and bathrooms was a bit nicer, but i suppose you get what you pay for and considering Toronto this was a steal.
Great place to stay in if all you do is staying here to sleep one or a few nights, since its very central and for the price you pay there honestly isn't any other place that can compete in value in central Toronto. The staff was friendly rooms and bathrooms were fine. A huge but welcome surprise is that it included a breakfast (small but enough)

Czech RepublicDirty bathroom. Also, there’s AC in the room and I don’t think people should be allowed to change the temperature themselves as there was someone who kept setting it up for 17 degrees which is really cold, especially if the cold wind is blowing at you directly.
Good breakfast, great location, friendly and helpful staff.

PhilippinesThe maintenance was the worst. The toilet had busyed lights that they did not replace until I left. The shower floor was filthy. The shower did not have any rack to put the shampoos.

AustraliaWe didn't use the fridge inside the room as it smelt a bit off. However, we ended up using the communal fridge in the kitchen so no issues there.
Great place to stay in the heart of downtown Toronto! Staff were very friendly, helpful and fostered a communal vibe. The private room and ensuite was cozy but definitely enough space for a couple. The location was central, felt safe and walkable to many nearby nice restaurants and stores. Price was perfect - definitely recommend if you're looking for somewhere good value!

Egypt1- Although street cars ( super slow )are 4 min. walking from hostel , but the fast subway is 12 min. far by walking , hard if you have luggages . . 2- Some of the receptionists are non-professional & others were kinda rude. 3- Toilettes need renewal ( No shelf in shower & damaged sink not-working curtains ) kept asking for a shelf for my 9 nights stay with no action taken!!! 4 - I have made my booking 8 months in advance to guarantee a dorm on ground floor ( as I have serious knee issue ) , but 3 days before my arrival hostel e- mailed me that I have been moved to the THIRD floor in ANOTHER building because a LARGE group is coming , where I passed the first 4 nights then moved me again to ground floor dorm (atler the large group has checked out) , and when you ask why they answer you : " It is a hostel , not hotel " !!. But, still , Clarence hostel in my opinion is "THE BEST" among all other hostels in Toronto.
1- Location is in a safe neighborhood . No more homeless in park in front of hostel ( as was mentioned in previous reviews ). 2- Spotless clean place . 3- There is a complimentary breakfast ( which is not mentioned on booking.com site !! ). 4- More than 3 fridges in kitchen to restore your food. 5-- Some of the staff are super polite " Maxx & the Portuguese Jon" 5-. Bunk beds are wooden & comfy. 6- there are 2 computers free to use .

ChinaThe mattress and pillow were too soft, and they didn't provide slippers for showering. I brought my own, but I believe the cleaning staff accidentally threw them out.

CanadaThe room was pretty hot, and the conditioner didn't really help much. We had to keep the window open at all times even when it was quite noisy outside due to the proximity of some bars. Besides, the smoking zone happened to be right under the window, and hence the smoke drifted inside the room through the open window that I didn't like at all. One more thing that I personally found a bit inconvenient is that the kitchen was closed for cleaning after breakfast time, and hence I couldn't have my own breakfast after 10 am when I really needed it.
I enjoyed my stay at the Clarence park. It is a clean centrally located hostel with very friendly and helpful staff. The room was daily cleaned, the hostel was quiet and conveniently located close to all the major tourist attractions. I absolutely loved how comfortable the beds were and that they had the curtains that allowed a certain degree of privacy. I would like to express a special thanks to one of the staff members who recommended renting a bike on Toronto Island instead of exploring it on foot. I absolutely loved this experience.
