How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Friends and relatives are only allowed to come to your room for 10 minutes. I was sick during my stay and my sister (who lived in Baku) had problems to come an visit me. But after contacting Manager problem was solved.

The street is closed for car movement and taxi or cab cannot drop off in front of the hotel.

The breakfast was a bit below my expectations but had a nice variety
The design of the hotel was astonishing and the furniture and decoration were so classy the we loved each corner The quite room even when it is located on a bustling street once we shut the balcony door extremes serenity befalls on the room The staff were so helpful and cooperative that made the stay like living in your own home The breakfast area and service were also uplifting

All wonderful, nothing not to like!
The reviews don't lie, The Merchant is a special little boutique hotel right in the heart of gorgeous Baku! It's full of character, the staff are great, and the breakfast and bar in the lounge area are of course a highlight. I'm not normally a hotel bar person, but this really was a great place just to sit and enjoy a drink with a good book and relax. The Old Town is just across the street as well, and the 'Bulvar' (Baku's beautiful big waterfront boulevard area) just at the end of the street, so you couldn't ask for a better location.

The Location is in the Heart of Baku. Walking Distance to all attractions. The Hotel Staff were very friendly, Breakfast was excellent with a lot of options. Room is spacious and well designed.

The cars can’t get to hotel entrance you need to walk about 150 meters due to road closures by police

The minibar only has 2 bags of instant coffee, 4 tea bags and lots of sugar (for 2 people). On the other hand, the staff gives unlimited water in the room, which is very useful in hot Baku. The room does not have windows that open and on Saturday, there was an an open air concert on a nearby street (and if I understand correctly, is held regularly), which can be heard in your room
Great location and amazing staff. The hotel is located in the heart of Baku. In walking distance to the historical center, the seafront and many attractions. The breakfasts at the hotel are very good. The choice is not huge, but varied enough. All products are of high quality and tasty. Excellent beds, with the ability to pick up almost any pillow. The rooms are spacious Separately I would like to mention the staff, which is incredibly responsive willing to help in many situations, in everything that concerned the accommodation, as well as many others

The occasional bath towel might be frayed, or worn. Room cleaning service would replace immediately, if brought to their attention.

It was an excellent experience at this hotel... I renewed my stay for another 2 days... Here you have to give the receptionist his due.. The person is called Jaafar, he is a very well-mannered, polite and extremely cooperative person who overcomes all difficulties. Thank you Jaafar... The sugar also goes to his colleagues at the hotel reception, they were kind and cooperative. As for the hotel, its location is excellent, close to the sea promenade, the restaurant, and the squares. I highly recommend it.

Upon arrival by Cab, Taxi or Bolt driver won't be able to drop people in front door, so keeping in mind 2 minutes walk to the front office with the lagguge. Although there is a street in front of the building but seems to be organised to keep the city clean from the cars.
The staff were all really helpful and nice people. The location of the hotel is amazing because it is placed inside Baku old city the building felt soo comfy and clean.
