I have family roots in Waitangi, but when I decided to take my granddaughter (11yrs) and grandson (09yrs) to take a look at our waka, it was going to cost me $35.00 per head (adults) x2 just for my grandkids to see our canoe. I was saddened by this. I have a lot of good memories of Paihia and one of them is picking pipi's. Nice beach, kids friendly as long as supervised by an adult.Guest review byWaaNew Zealand - 10.0

I have been to Russell a couple of times before but only as day visits so to be honest Ive only stayed in the little township itself but loved that. This time I stayed a night to attend a function. The motel was the icing on the cake because where you stay can make or break a stay anywhere. The view of the harbour below with boats anchored..you couldn't beat. I want to come back..and my friend and I intend to. It's handiness was great. Great afternoon of shopping..something for everyone & delightful 'The Grazing table' cafe for home cooked sweets with delicious coffee. Would have liked to spend more time in the fabulous looking book store..great looking coffee table books on display but I ran out of time. There is something for everyone here. Russell town can easily be walked around in a short time without stopping..but who wants to do that. It's a lovely, interesting quaint place with a lovely harbour looking over to Paihia where you go to connect to main highway..eventually. A day passenger ferry runs regularly from Paihia & to. There are other areas to visit over the hill and the car ferry over from Opua is very quick and efficient. And least but not forgotten..the fantastic Duke of Marlborough hotel and accomodation with its elegance gracing the shoreline is a highlight. I had a lovely evening supportng the Recuse Helicopters fundraising event..it was spent under gorgeous chandelier lighting with all the simple but lovely table settings. Surely a grand gentleman which began in 1827 as 'Johnny Johnsons Grog Shop' by an ex convict come good!Guest review byYvonneNew Zealand - 10.0
I would highly recommend staying at Waters Edge.
I would highly recommend staying at Waters Edge. It was amazing to wake up each day to the view of the water and the sound of the birds. The home is a short walk along the track to Opua marina area. I believe that you can also walk the same track to Paihia although we ran out of time to do this. A close car ride to Paihia. There are plenty of tourist attractions to see.Guest review byannaNew Zealand - 10.0
This was a lovely place to stay.
This was a lovely place to stay. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and everything we needed was provided. It was a real treat to stay here. We visited the Treaty Grounds, just down the road for a cultural and historical education. We hiked to waterfalls and mangrove forests. We caught the car ferry and visited Russell on the coast.Guest review byKathy ForsdykeUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Paihia is a great place to stay and head to the islands and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. The ferry port and Treaty Grounds are in easy walking distance from the apartments. The apartment was very well presented and equipped. Gorgeous views. We thank the proprietors for the 'essentials' they provided including chocolate! We didn't realise there wasn't a lift though - carrying lots of luggage up flights of stairs was a bit hard.Guest review byWilliamAustralia - 10.0

A beautiful serene village.
A beautiful serene village. You need to be prepared to walk & explore the area. Lovely places to eat & drink - our most favourite is Hones Kitchen. Getting out on the water in a boat is an added bonusGuest review byPeterNew Zealand - 10.0

I’m impressed with the variety of shops including food/kai restaurants. King Wahs, Jimmy Jacks. The local 4 Square also has a variety of specials for those travelling by camper vans or doing a weekend stay like us. We would have done a lot more had we had the time. Lots of great fishing spots. Rates right up there with Matauri Bay.Guest review byJanetNew Zealand - 10.0
