A unique town to visit.
A unique town to visit. A beautiful town centre with many restaurants and bars to choose from. Many historic buildings to view and admire. I visited the nearby Koninkje Luchtmacht vliegbasis where a major NATO exercise was taking place.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Nes is a cosy, historical village, not cheap, but not very expensive either. It is the harbor village located almost in the middle of Ameland and therefore perfect for day trips to either direction. The restaurants are good quality, so is the ice-cream, the vegetables and everything else you can buy. There is a great supermarket called Jumbo on the main road from the ferry. If you want to go for hikes, nature with lots of birds, deer and wild rabbits are just a short walk away. The Amelanders love their horses, and they are everywhere.Guest review byMargrethe - 10.0

Harlingen is a wonderful town, picturesque and full of charming houses, canals and historic places. The people were helpful, friendly and easy going. Surprisingly, the town caters for mostly Dutch tourists, so it was often a challenge to understand the history as there were no signs or explanations in English. The local museum is in Dutch only. But with German and English we were able to get by. The islands across from Harlingen are well worth a visit, the beaches are spectacular, almost deserted and clean. The bird wildlife is plentiful.Guest review bySusanGermany - 10.0

I recently spent four days in Oost-Vlieland and it was a fantastic experience. The accommodation was comfortable, clean, and centrally located, a perfect base for exploring the island. Vlieland is truly a place to unwind. The nature is stunning: wide beaches, peaceful forests, and endless dune trails. Ideal for walking or cycling (tip: rent an e-bike for longer routes!). I’ll definitely be coming back!Guest review byMirellaSwitzerland - 10.0

We have visited Lemmer many times over the years and are happy to find many of the same restaurants and bars still going (especially after Covid). It is a vibrant, friendly town, based around the Ijsselmeer and canals, many boats of all shapes and sizes. We didn't swim in the Ijsselmeer (it was May, and bear in mind it used to be part of the North Sea!) Lots to see and do round about, though our holiday was mainly based around fishing (myself, with some success) and reading in a lounger (my wife).Guest review byKevinUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Sneek had a lot of beautiful buildings.
Sneek had a lot of beautiful buildings. The construction was a bit confusing for cycling. We walked in the downtown which we thoroughly enjoyed. We really liked the old Distillery that we found fascinating where the owner was so informative and we were able to taste a variety of liqueurs & whiskeys. The Walrus restaurant downtown was excellent that was recommended by locals.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Lovely place.
Lovely place. Plenty of great restaurants and the people are so friendly. Great history to the place also which we were impressed with for a small island. Visited the lighthouse and walked to the top, visited the life saving museum, WWII bunk house and the grave of the 8 horses that lost their lives. Great walks. Also some lovely shops if that is your thing!!Guest review byGailNetherlands - 8.0

The island is quiet and unspoilt, with little traffic (most cars aren't allowed). Most places can be easily reached by bicycle, and these are easy to hire and of good quality. Although there are restaurants and bars, these are not the island's highlights. There is only one supermarket on the island, but it does seem to have most things. The ferry service is slow and infrequent - careful planning in advance is recommended. The cafeteria on the ferry is surprisingly good, although it only does drinks and snacks.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0
This was our second visit to Terschelling.
This was our second visit to Terschelling. So much to see and do! We already have a list started for our next visit. We loved biking (and trying out a tandem!). Next time we would like to see if the kids can catch any crabs and try taking a boat ride. Several yummy take out options. This was great since restaurants closed across the country.Guest review byRudiNetherlands - 10.0

Dokkum is a delightful little town in the north of Friesland, a province in the northern part of the Netherlands. Quite historic. The centre of town is surrounded by canals and ‘bolwerken’ on which a few still operating classic dutch windmills are located. Brilliant views all around. One can walk around the entire town in about 30-45 minutes. There are plenty good restaurants and bars, even on boats in the canals. Great little town!Guest review byAndreas BoessenkoolSpain
