FAQs about hotels in Sardinia
Jewel of the Mediterranean
This fabulous Italian island is an exclusive holiday destination, so of all the Sardinia hotels 5 star properties make up a good proportion. Several are on the wonderful Emerald Coast, known for its stunning scenery. Because of the fantastic beaches and coves, this area (Costa Smeralda in Italian) houses some of the best Sardinia hotels for families.
Amazing Emerald Coast resorts include Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo with its exclusive harbour, and Baia Sardinia. Palau overlooks the La Maddalena archipelago, a national park comprising peaceful islands. There are also several Sardinia hotels on the beach in Pula, a resort popular with locals.
Sardinia also has lots of history to explore. Close to Pula is Nora, where there are remains of a Roman town. Other Roman ruins are found in a dramatic setting at Tharros, near Oristano.
However, it’s the nuraghe - prehistoric megaliths - that are typically Sardinian. Found all over the island, these stone structures are incredibly well preserved. The most famous is Su Nuraxi in Barumini and there are several near Alghero, a walled city with narrow streets and a sandy beach. The prehistoric settlement at Tiscali in the Gennargentu mountains is most easily accessed from Dorgali.
Booking.com also has hotels in Cagliari, the island’s capital. Bastione San Remy offers panoramic city views towards fabulous Poetto beach beyond.

Alghero exceeded all our expectations!
Alghero exceeded all our expectations! We stayed in luxury apartments on Via Antonio Dalerci — everything was perfect: stylish design, high-end amenities, and a quiet location near the sea. The old town is beautiful, full of charm, local restaurants, and amazing views. It honestly felt like a dream vacation. We would love to come back again!Guest review byMaryellen - 10.0

We took a train here from the South to explore North Sardegna and flew home out of Olbia. We didn't spend a lot of time in Olbia proper but we did see much of the surrounding area. This north island is absolutely gorgeous! If you have a car you can do many day trips from here. We rented a zodiac boat to explore La Maddalena, if your up for it this was a great alternative to taking the ferry across. The beaches around here can't be beat. We are adventure travelers and fell in love with this island. Hiking, biking, caving, snorkeling/diving, boating and Via Ferrata climbing- Sardegna has it all!Guest review byBillUnited States - 10.0

A fantastic place for a city break, only a 2 hour flight from the UK, a really interesting and historic city with a good beach and a plethora of excellent restaurants and bars in which you can wine and dine al-fresco in the beautiful and bustling summer evenings.Guest review byRichardUnited Kingdom - 6.0

the beaches are really super beautiful, clear water and white sand ! but extremely full of people and families and noises, so it you like it it's fine. and sometimes the beaches are not even opened, unless you book on internet, which is very complicated. we found solutions by walking 2 kilometers on "La Cinta beach" till there was nobody, and then it was great !Guest review byFezyFrance - 8.0

Lovely town, full of restaurants, nice beach close by, we had a car so could drive around the area, would recommend a visit to Capo Testa, nice walking and beach. If you have transport visit Magdalena with ferry. We had 7days here but 4 or 5 would be enough with car.Guest review byAngie TudgeAustralia - 8.0

Friendly locals and beautiful long beaches, great even for kids — plenty of space despite rows of sunbeds. Poor beachside services: toilets and showers open only from the second week of June. This year, unfortunately, tons of seagrass have washed up, which might cause issues for sensitive individuals.Guest review byDavidCzech Republic - 10.0

It is a lovely area with a multitude of beaches, friendly people, and plenty of restaurants. It is a long way from the airports, but the roads are good and so the 80 minute drive from Olbia isn't onerous. A parasol or some other sun shelter is a must (although it is possible to hire parasols on some beaches) - the sun is very intense and shade can be difficult to come across on many beaches, especially those accessible only by boat.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

The waters surrounding La Maddalena are stunning, the closest to the Caribbean I have experienced in the Mediterranean. La Maddalena is relatively small and easy to get around with a car. Depending on where you are staying, beaches may be within walking distance. Sailing or other boating outings highly recommended to truly enjoy all the islands have to offer.Guest review byScottUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We really liked Palau - we stayed for 3 nights which was perfect for a day trip boat tour and an evening ferry trip across to La Maddalena for dinner. We came back to Palau for ice creams though - the Fiore di Maggio was the best gelateria by far 👌Guest review byMorganUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Castelsardo itself is an interesting small city with its castle and round streets. Hikers and people doing "steps" should love hundreds of steers and narrow uphill streets, especially in the rather well preserved tower area. And, it hides so good seafood restaurants with spectacular views. I thought I had it all already, yet we were seriously surprised of the food and service quality. Sure, tripadvisor points tell the story. Yet in some cities you could find pizza kiosks also with ratings like 4.8, so watch out. Trekking and hiking roads are also near by. Beware of review dates. Some are full of bushes, still not cleaned, so it took us 3 tryouts to find a decent track. Most of these tracks are unmarked. Would be hard to find these if you have experienced German way of marking tracks.Guest review byMikk OrglaanEstonia
