FAQs about hotels in Liguria
A Spectacular Sea of Colour
Although one of Italy’s smallest regions, Liguria punches well above its weight for incredible scenery. Its coastline stretching from the French border to the port of La Spezia is lined with brightly coloured houses, including those spectacularly hugging cliffs in the Cinque Terre villages.
Equally impressive is Portofino harbour, one of the most beautiful in Italy. In a country that counts Venice, Sorrento and Capri amongst its harbour towns, that’s quite some accolade. Next door Rapallo has a long promenade watched over by a castle.
Levanto’s promenade is supported by pillars on the beach below and overlooks mountains descending into the Mediterranean Sea. Portovenere at the tip of a peninsula has a Gothic church on a rocky outcrop.
The Liguria capital is Genoa, Italy’s busiest port and home to one of Europe’s largest Old Towns. Varazze to the west has a sweeping beach, as does Alassio – 2 resorts with lots of Liguria hotels on the beach on Booking.com. A fortress guards the entrance to Savona harbour, while Albenga has medieval spires and cobbled streets.
Low hills are the backdrop to Imperia’s beach and neighbouring Diano Marina is lapped by turquoise waters. When thinking of Liguria hotels, luxury springs to mind and nowhere is this truer than in exclusive Sanremo, home to an annual music festival and glamorous casino.

We were pleasantly surprised by Genova.
We were pleasantly surprised by Genova. Someone had said "its a port town not much to see". This is totally incorrect. Excellent food, easy and safe to wander around. Get local recommendations. Heading up the funicular is a great thing to do, particularly if you enjoy Hiking/walking. There are numerous track above the city, with fabulous views and lovely to be in nature. We used Genova as a base and did day trips to Cinque Terre by train and Portofino bike tour.Guest review bySuzieNew Zealand - 6.0

La Spezia is a military, commercial and cruise liner port, so not particularly interesting for tourists. However, it is well situated for Le Cinque Terre and other tourist areas. A good stopping off point in your travels.Guest review byMauriceUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We stayed in Sanremo for 5 days.
We stayed in Sanremo for 5 days. Lovely city, easy to access by car with lots of parking spaces. Lots of sites worth visiting and nice city centre with plenty of shopping opportunities. Around Sanremo many worthwhile places to visit: take the train to Ventimiglia with its large Friday market (very busy) or go by car to the sleepy former ghost town Bussana vecchia and Dolcheacqua, an absolute gem. East part of the French Riviera is close by.Guest review byWillemNetherlands - 10.0

We visited all 5 villages and Monterosso was by far the best place to stay . The tourist office in Monterosso suggested a walk cause it was easier . None of the walks are easy especially in summer heat ! Most are advanced I would say with many stepsGuest review byMarkAustralia - 10.0
Rapallo is a lovely town, with great facilities.
Rapallo is a lovely town, with great facilities. We used it as a hub to travel by public transport to the places we wanted to visit. We went by ferry to Portofino (or bus, if the weather stops the ferries running) and by train to Genoa, Pisa and Cinque Terre.Guest review bymarie0812Australia - 10.0
Perfect place to stay if you want to visit Portofino.
Perfect place to stay if you want to visit Portofino. Relaxed and laidback. Promenade with lots of restaurants. Great beach. Ferry or bus to other villages. Feels Italian, not as pricey and touristy as Portofino.Guest review byNiclasSweden - 10.0
Lovely town with many shops, restaurants and plenty to do.
Lovely town with many shops, restaurants and plenty to do. The beach and the sea looked very inviting even in winter! Easy to walk around and we found it very easy to visit nearby towns using trains which are reasonably priced and comfortable. Not easy to park near the centre, but there are several car parks for a reasonable hourly rate.Guest review byClaudiaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We loved the beach which was directly across the road.
We loved the beach which was directly across the road. We ate at the beach and it was good food. We mostly stayed at the beach most of the day and we appreciated the parking at the hotel. We loved playing in the water and just relaxing at the beach for the day. The hotel was a convenient location and was very clean and the host was very friendly and helpful.Guest review byNathan - 10.0

Levanto is in a great spot on the edge of the Cinqueterre National Park. There are fewer tourists here than in the Cinque Terre villages, but the whole national park is easily accessible from here. It's easy to travel from Pisa to Carrara, La Spezia, Cinqueterre, Genoa or even Milan because of the excellent rail connections. There are many hiking trips on marked trails in the area. The beaches are clean and comfortable. The sea is warm. The landscape is beautiful. At night, there is dancing in the main square. We also went to a free concert at St. Andrew's Church.Guest review byAlexCzech Republic - 10.0

It was good to stay at one end of the string of five towns, take the ferry to the other end, and work our way back. Riomaggiore seemed to have more dining options than the other towns except for Monterroso, and wasn't too costly.Guest review byAnonymous
