We have been traveling through Spain for the past two months...
We have been traveling through Spain for the past two months and found Jaen to be the least satisfying of all the places we stayed. It is very, very hilly. So if you have asthma or other respiratory illness, forget it. We stayed in the old town at the base of the hill and found the locals quite unfriendly and somewhat anti tourist. Don't believe Google maps(Search) about opening times for bars & restaurants as those indicated as being open, were closed. When we did find a bar, we felt unwelcome, with the barmaid choosing to text on the phone for 10 minutes of more instead of serving customers and in saying that when we were served it was after she served the locals first. An extra few days elsewhere would be better!Guest review byBarrieAustralia - 10.0

A great place to see and enjoy the history of one of Spain's oldest cities. Many fine places to eat (booking ahead is advisable) and if you're a lover of old buildings and churches, (including the Synagogue) you won't be disappointed. There is something for everyone, old or young.Guest review byDavidSpain - 8.0
Currently the town centre is undergoing major refurbishment...
Currently the town centre is undergoing major refurbishment work, making the lovely central square a building site. But the town has many excellent restaurants, and the local people are very friendly and welcoming. There is little else to do or see in the surrounding area, as this is the centre of the olive oil production, with millions of trees as far as the eye can see in every direction. The nearest other town is Ubeda but in our opinion, Baeza is more pedestrian friendly and is more historically interesting. The tourist train is a very pleasant way to see the town.Guest review byAnne MargaretSpain - 4.0

The streets in the town centre are very narrow which are shared by pedestrians and cars and at times come too close for comfort. A number of the bars and restaurants are closed for a number of days during the week or some permanently due to lack of staff!! The food served in most places was Tapas, Raciones which were mainly very good if not too different from one bar to another. If you are sightseeing by car be prepared for challenging mountain roads and local rally drivers. The town has a lot of charm but as a natural reserve better not to be visited in the hot summer months.Guest review byJohnIreland - 8.0

Linares is a typical Spanish town.
Linares is a typical Spanish town. There is not a lot to do here, but has an old lead mining history and just outside there is a very good Roman archaelogical site with mosaics etc at Castulo which was an unplanned and amazing find.Guest review byAngelaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I came with my sun to twitch the Iberian Lynx, we succeeded and saw 5 lynx, including a female with two cups. In the evening we spend some time in the city, we found some nice restaurants, the food is excellent and very cheap in relation with prices we pay in Holland.Guest review by54johanNetherlands - 8.0
A historic site of a battle centuries ago.
A historic site of a battle centuries ago. The deep gorge is highly defensible and a dramatic faulted landscape split in two by the gorge full of wild life. Take the old road down through the gorge as the autovia now ignores it as it skims above along its dramatic viaduct and tunnels. Leaving the valley a lovely place to stroll and picnic. Santa Elena on the hilltop was once bustling with merchant traffic and roadside inns. Now a sleepy backwater but great starting out point for mountain and gorge rambles. Great meals in the hotel and a nearby bar/restaurant. Great stopover southwards after boring Castillian meseta. Or heading north, a perfect place to pause for a night and one last glimpse at Andalucia.Guest review byMartinSpain - 10.0
The hosts Bev & John were wonderful.
The hosts Bev & John were wonderful. Their house is attached to the holiday accommodation but they never invade your privacy. If you do need them they are always available. Perfect. The accommodation is furnished well with all the equipment you will need. We were provided with a well stocked arrival pack. The terrace, gardens and pool are perfectly kept. The views are wonderful and as there is very little light pollution the night sky is outstanding. We loved it so much we’ve booked to go back next year. Thank you Bev and John for a great time.Guest review byJohnSpain - 8.0

My trip was limited to Jaen only rather than the surrounding countryside. Lovely town, great Cathedral, in the ticket price there is a few of the goggle that allow you to do a 360 degree virtual reality viewing- really enjoyed the added detail. Good castle and walkable if fit and in the mood. The town has lots of cafe bars and shops. I used the buses and trains, all with ease.Guest review byGrahamUnited Kingdom
