FAQs about hotels in Bavaria
Romantic Region of Castles and Christmas Markets
Home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Christmas markets, Bavaria is the German region touching Lake Constance and the Austrian and Czech borders. Although evoking images of beer, lederhosen and fairytale castles, it’s much, much more than that.
Famous for Oktoberfest, its capital Munich has impressive architecture lining squares and parks, and several luxury Bavaria hotels on Booking.com. To the north, Nuremberg is a city of 2 halves: a picture-postcard old town and grandiose Nazi rally grounds housing a sensitive museum.
With a stately palace and gardens, Erlangen is on the Regnitz River which continues to beautiful Bamberg where one of the half-timbered buildings hovers above the flowing river. Bayreuth is well-known for opera performances of Wagner, a former resident, while Regensburg on the Danube River has a beautiful, medieval centre.
Unsurprisingly, most romantic Bavaria hotels are on the Romantic Road between Würzburg, with its hilltop castle, and Füssen in the foothills of the Alps. Neighbouring Hohenschwangau has 2 royal castles, one of which – Neuschwanstein – inspired the Disney castle. Oberammergau has frescoed façades and hosts a 10-yearly Passion Play, and nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a top German ski resort, with Tyrolean-style houses overlooked by Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.
Back on the Romantic Road, Augsburg has colourful buildings, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is like stepping back in time.

The management of the N9-Nürnberg Hotel was offended that I accused them of fraud! On 08.04.2025 I booked a room for 3 nights, period 17-20.07.2025 with the possibility of canceling the reservation for free during a certain period. The facilities read: private bathroom, free WiFi included, parking, flat-screen TV, family room, non-smoking rooms, 2 restaurants, shower, covered parking, luggage room. I was notified of the additional payment of €20/day exactly on the check-in date 17.07.2025 when I could no longer cancel the reservation without losing all the money! I work for those €60+ and if I knew about them, I would cancel the reservation. Booking.com ordered me to delete the review! Why?Guest review byNagy - 8.0

Lovely city to have a stop during my drive to a business meeting. City has nice architecture and the Donau river gives the extra touch. Enough possibilities to have a nice lunch and diner. Can recommend Burgerheart when you want some nice American experience. Loved the peer-melon limonade. Went now two year in a row to Regensburg and can't wait for the next one.Guest review byBoecky89Belgium - 10.0

lovely setting- even the train station has a vineyard as backdrop. the old town is compact and easy to walk around. Locals were very friendly Great place to wander and soak up the atmosphere Lots of history to learn about, loads of shops and cafes ( lots for vegans and vegetarians), wineries to visit ( Juliusspital has lovely building and garden) . Attractions include the Residence ( which has lovely grounds to wander in) and the Fortress, which also has walks around it. The city website https://www.wuerzburg.de/ is really useful ( and has version in English, including downloadable audiofiles for a self guided tour)Guest review byRuthUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Augsburg is a very charming city with lots of points of interest and restaurants and caffee's. Don't miss the Rathausplatz, Fuggerei, Maximilianstrasse, Koenigplatz and old city walls. For good Bavarian/Schwaebische Food I recommend Restaurant unter dem Bogen on Annastrasse. People watching and relaxing Caffee Eber am Rathausplatx. Take one of the city tours, organized by the city and raasonably priced. Augsburgs Strassenbahn System makes it easy to get around, buy a "Streifenkarte". Walk around in the Altstadt and around the "Kahnfahrt" and the old city walls- it is just beautiful.Guest review byUrsulaGermany - 10.0

I thought the White Night Party was an abomination.
I thought the White Night Party was an abomination. I had visited for the Richard Strauss festival whose last night was bizarrely paired with the noisiest and town dominating party I ever experienced. This meant the concert hall was entirely beseiged by very noisy bands and revellers dressed in white. Utterly bizarre. Had I known I would not have visited.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Füssen was fabulous and far better than I expected, recommend hiring an E bike, going round the lake and the riding round the old town, it is beautiful. Three nights was perfect for us. Wok In has very good food at a reasonable price. It's rammed with eateries and good gelateria.Guest review byKeithNew Zealand - 10.0

We arrived around 1pm, and left the following day around 11am. I could have stayed another day. The town is quite large and while the day trippers come in and see the main street, there is so much more to do here - side streets to wander and shop, the city walls and outside the walls - many walking and biking paths. We will be back and plan to stay two nights.Guest review byCynthiaUnited States - 8.0
We particularly loved the Dom and the midday organ concert.
We particularly loved the Dom and the midday organ concert. Sorry to have missed the Obervasten, but it was soooo hot when we were there that we opted for the Passauer Erlebnisbad (PEB) instead. An easy bus ride from the bus station and what a swimming pool complex!Guest review bySueNew Zealand
