I walked around Trier and saw many things.
I walked around Trier and saw many things. One of my favorites was the cathedral and the adjoining basilica. I also was amazed at the Porta Nigra and Constantine’s basilica. The Hauptmarkt was a lot of fun to explore and enjoy the cafés. I had a great meal at one of the restaurants in the hauptmarkt, excellent German food and a great selection of beer. For anyone who likes to knit, as I do, Leyendecker bastelstube is a great place to buy yarn and lots of other craft materials.Guest review byJenniferBelgium - 10.0

WE have been before and it is still a great place to stay, on the river with boat trips, good roads to Trier etc, many wine tasting locations are within walking distance, it gets busy in the day but evenings when the coaches have gone it is really lovely!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Lovely town, English menu's in most restaurant's.
Lovely town, English menu's in most restaurant's. Long flat promenade to walk along, English widely spoken, lots of restaurants and cafe's, but it felt that 90% were Pizza restaurants. I saw two banks, Volksbank & Sparkasse, Volksbank is on the Market Square 60 seconds from the promonade and has an ATM with English instructions. It also has non ATM machines, look for the one with the keypad. Some small businesses only accept cash so the ATM availability is important. Boat trips on the Rhine are available including an all day return trip to Rudesheim so you get to view the entire Rhine Gorge twice. The cable car costs 11 Euro's return, cash & cards accepted, it takes you to the viewing point for the definative River Rhine photo (see photo's). Boppard is an excellent place to stay on the mighty River Rhine.Guest review byAntonyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Its a small Rhine River town with a nice selection of stores. It's quiet and an old castle you can walk or drive up to. It's a great small town to take a break within short dive to explore other Rhine towns north and south of St Goar.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0
Bacharach is truly a hidden gem in Germany.
Bacharach is truly a hidden gem in Germany. I had one day to explore Germany before meeting up with my tour group, and I read Rick Steve's Germany book and he recommended the Rhine Valley. He also recommends Bacharach as a city to set up base in. Bacharach is such an interesting town! So much history, much of the original buildings are still intact and in use. I did the Bacharach historical walk from Rick Steve's book and it took about an hour and a half. So relaxing and enriching. there's also a K-D tour boat that stops in Bacharach so you can travel up and down the Rhine and view sites such as the Lorely,Guest review byPowley - 10.0

The area was beautiful for walking around the little towns We caught local bus to Cochem for the day -- which was very easy we travelled in October so a few places had closed but still enough places to eat and have a glass of wineGuest review byRhondaAustralia - 10.0
Treis-Karden is a good base to go hiking.
Treis-Karden is a good base to go hiking. The hiking trail to Burg Eltz was very nice, I did the black route. The last part is the heaviest part. I went to the viewing point of the castle and then went back. I did that because there is an entrance fee that you have to pay for the castle, even if you just want to order food and drinks. In the afternoon I went to Mörsdorf to visit the Geierlay hanging bridge, which was awesome. Note that the bus (line 746) does not go there every hour and that the line is not currently on Google Maps. So search online for the schedule or visit the tourist office in the train station. During my stay the buses ran from the water-side of the station instead of the official bus stop, so double check if that is the case for you. Both these things could have been their own day, since there are more hiking trails available in both places.Guest review byAri FijanNetherlands - 4.0

the place is good to stay and I ate in front of a restaurant dönner, it is sometimes not easy to get there if you are not traveling by car. about the management and staff is unorganized and not friendly and cooperative. do not have the value of a customer and do not care about any customer even if the are waiting for check-in or check-out. if compare with price i can say not value of money.Guest review byJamshed AliGermany - 6.0

The main problem for us was the fact that parking is difficult and extremely expensive. When having bikes withe you , its difficult to find no pay parking away from the centre. On restauarants , quite a few serve acceptable simple menues, but price wise they often go over the top. Even simple lunch facilities in shopping centres are over the top with pricing ans we have seen visitors after seeing the menue walking out and you can guess why. Bike path river side is fineGuest review byWilhelmusNetherlands - 8.0

Bernkastel is a small village, so it is easy to get around on foot. One day walk around and see it is more than enough. Within Bernkastel and within 10 minutes driving distance one can find exceptional wineries which offer wine tastings and tours.Guest review byLeonidasBelgium
