The village and the surroundings are beautiful, good food in the restaurants. We missed a cafe open in the morning :). The church and its surroundings are incredibly beautiful and well-kept: no wonder it is the symbol of the village.Guest review byBorbálaHungary - 8.0

Matrei and the surrounding countryside mirror the pictures that are seen of Austria: it is beautiful. The town has two grocery stores and a very helpful tourist information center. It also has an interesting museum and a reasonable choice of restaurants.. We ate our evening meal in the hotel across the street ( where the breakfast included is eaten) and the food was good. Easy access from the main highway.Guest review byAlexandra - 10.0

The location is super. Sweet welcome. Nice clean room with super view. Great food - the best Kaiserschmarrn we ever have ;-) The evening with the surprised performance of DJ Don Pedro was really super cool. Thank you. We would highly recommend this placeGuest review byRa_StCzech Republic - 10.0

First we overnight at Wurlerhof Pensión with breakfast. Excellent accommodations, great bathroom with warm towels. Austrian humble and loving hospitality with breakfast included. Homemade mermelade, bread, own hen eggs. A dream. Then went up for the experience, that connection of solitude and power at Grossglockner.Guest review byJacquelineUnited States - 10.0

We were on a driving holiday visiting the high alpine passes. The Grossglockner road tool booth is five minutes away and opens at 5:30am; we left the hotel at 5:25am and were there as it opened. The hotel was welcoming, clean and as advertised. We ate at the hotel, having been up to the Edelweißspitze (the toll is reduced after 6pm, so we arrived and went up before dinner). Some rooms overlook the main road, so you might want to request a room on the other side of the hotel if the noise of the occasional vehicle bothers you.Guest review byRichardUnited Kingdom - 10.0

If you ever go to visit Heiligenblut, please drive the Grossgluckner Hochalpenstrasse and visit the Kaiser Franz Josefs Hohe. Park your car and go find some murmeltieren. I had the best day of my life with some carrots and the friendly murmeltieren.Guest review byHilliëtteNetherlands - 6.0
Nice small town. They have supermarkets and a bus stop.
Nice small town. They have supermarkets and a bus stop. For us it was our starting and end point of the Venediger Höhenweg. You need some planning to get to the right place by bus. Nice connection to the train station in Kitzbühel and Lienz. Also you can get by bus to the Matreier Tauern Haus and Ströden. Hitchhiking is also possible.Guest review byLieke - 10.0
