If you are going to Memphis, you have to stay at the Peabody at least once, or just for one night. It is pretty magical. It provides top notch service in an ultra classy venue. My wife and I definitely recommend it.

    Memphis no longer feels safe!

Memphis no longer feels safe! We were there in 2022, and more recently in 2025 and felt a big difference in only 3 years. Streets are deserted, Trams and public transport no longer run, and the homicide rate is quite scary. The City need to heavily invest in safety and then tourism; Memphis does have a lot to offer, but at the moment I would recommend friends, family and fellow travellers steer clear.

Good food, but stick to downtown.

Good food, but stick to downtown. It's far safer than the suburbs by a WIDE margin. I was down to look at homes and property for sale. Given that i'm white, and not from the area. Both I and my business partner caught flak at 7 of the 12 property's we came to look at. Having a realtor for 3 of them didn't help. Downtowns great though, go see a live show on Beale street and visit Rendezvous BBQ. Though I'd recommend staying in a West Memphis hotel and just using one of the paid parking areas because everywhere is going to charge you for parking regardless. You may as well take the extra 10 minute drive from West Memphis and commute into downtown. You will save money doing so.

We did a short whirlwind tour of Memphis doing the standard stuff, and for others I cannot recommend the Stax records museum enough. 4 of us went and I thought they might only be interested for 1 hour but after 2.5 hours I had to drag them out of there and they talked about it for the rest of the week! Memphis has a more edgy/arty/grungy feel which I liked but its not for everyone. Talking to the locals was easy and they were very open.

    We loved Memphis.

We loved Memphis. We hit many of the highlights and learned so much about the people, music and history. We ate great BBQ and Soul Food, went to Stax Record Co., BB Kings (ask for Nikki), Silky O'Sullivan's (ask for Scotty and check out the goats.) Visit the Lorraine Motel and Civil Rights Museum, Graceland (which I didn't think I cared about, but WOW!) Sun Studios, the Bridge and waterfront. Stop by to see Peabody's ducks, WC Handy's Museum and the Daisy Theater. We saw the awful destruction of the Clayborn Temple within weeks of it's arson/destruction. Look it up and prepare to cry. Everywhere street signs give history to the strong women and men who helped build the area. We met and talked with informative locals, helpful UBER drivers, lovely people on the street. We had a very positive and enjoyable vacation and have already passed along our must-visit recommendation to friends.

We stayed very central to Beale Street.

We stayed very central to Beale Street. Arrived about 2200 hrs and walked a few hundred yards from hotel onto Beale Street but felt quite intimidated, Police cars at every junction and struggled to find anywhere for food at that time of night. Did think then that we were'nt going to like it, however next day tour of Memphis and then to Graceland was amazing, perople very friendly. Peabody hotel for the duck parade, trip to Graceland and tour of Memphis all a must, went out earlier in the evening and had delicious food at BB Kings great live music and great food but charged $10 pp cover charge for entry. Visited Sun Studios and did the party bike tour which were both great. Glad we have been and had a great time but not sure this would be somewhere I would rush back to. Took the Greyhound from Memphis to Nashville and the bus station is not the safest feeling place to be.

snow storm when we were in Memphis but the hotel were keen to ensure we knew the situation and gave us flyers for delivery service etc. They had their team stay overnight to ensure there were staff the following morning. Slow service but that was to be expected and they delt with the situation well. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Gym was a good size for a hotel and the breakfast was good. Room was okay size but clean and had everything needed. Location good and everything was walkable, even with the snowy weather.

When we arrived it felt like we were slightly out of town and felt a bit remote to start. However, it was a 5-10 walk to Beale Street where most of the live music action and restaurants are located. A 5 minute walk to the Lorraine Motel. 5 minute walk to waterfront. Famous Peabody hotel 15 minute walk. Across the road was the famous Memphis Dinner where Elvis used to to go. And a couple of doors along a more ‘healthy’ option.

Superb hotel. We were in Memphis for reasons other than staying at the Peabody. However, it was a brilliant experience in itself and a real treat. The staff were exceptionally friendly. Restaurants superb and the building itself has a great sense of occasion. Having Lansky Brothers on site was simply amazing and a hugely enjoyable place to browse and shop. Mr Lansky made us feel very welcome!
