We didn't bother with the 'Amsterdam Card' (which gives free admission to many attractions and free public transport) but the City Card which gives access to free public transport (metro, tram, rail, ferry) was well worth it. We didn't do much structured sightseeing but instead enjoyed just exploring on foot, helped by the excellent public transport system. It's a city everyone should visit at least once, even though crowded at times.

The city has great sights and is a real gem for historical reasons. The Ann Frank house, Rembrandt and Van Gogh museums/houses are fantastic. The prices can be bit high, but that's Europe on the US dollar right now, so it was expected. This is my 3rd time there and every time I find new and interesting things to see and experience. Its a must see for a bucket list!

    Amsterdam is amazing.

Amsterdam is amazing. It's a also a great base to visit other cities from. There is so much to do in the city. The best bars are not the tourist traps. The Morebeer Tour, starting at Arendsnest is well worth doing. A visit to Vondelpark at the end of the tour is also a must-do. Staying just outside the city will give you a cheaper and better hotel than in the centre. Sloterdijk was perfect for me as it was easy to pop to the beach at Zandvoort and visiting Haarlem and Alkmaar. Trams in Amsterdam are also frequent, efficient and cheap. You can download the GVB app and purchase a few days unlimted travel. It will also help you to determine your route. It's a great way of covering lots of Amsterdam realtively quickly. There are plenty of places to eat in Amsterdam or the surrounding areas, you'll be spoilt for choice. Ducth fries are delicious and also the pancakes. There are plenty of top class museums to visit in Amsterdam, if you're thinking of going to the Anne Frank House, book online, way in advance. This gets very, very busy all year round. There's no 'best time of year to visit'. In the Summer everything is outdoors and alive but there's also something very special about Amsterdam when you're walking around wrapped up in the middle of Winter.

Amsterdam is a fascinating city. Clean, safe and walkable. One caveat is the cyclists, they don’t break for tourists! The museums are fantastic and the cafes and restaurants serve great food in lovely settings. The highlight was a visit to the Anne Frank House. So moving. The international airport is huge and a bit tricky to navigate the first time. Uber works well in Amsterdam and credit cards are accepted virtually everywhere.

The building is great and also the neighbourhood. There is a room the guests can use to have breakfast or dinner that you buy in the bakery, supermarket, or restaurants you can find in the streets by the hotel. The hotel is near the area of the museums, and near the city centre of Amsterdam, you can go strolling. The staff is very kind.
