Superb room apart from roller blind in bathroom non-functional. Left hand mirror light in bathroom bulb gone - reported. No where in the shower to put shower gel or shampoo - no shelf or cubby hole! No where to put a wash bag. Excellent hot drink sachets, hairdryer etc. Comfy bed and pillows. Fresh towels both days, didn't expect this as we only stayed 2 nights.

FAQs about hotels in Plymouth

Life By the Ocean Wave

From prehistory to the present, the very essence of Plymouth has been inextricably linked to the sea. The Pilgrim Fathers departed from here and named their new Massachusetts settlement after it, and Sir Francis Drake famously finished his game of bowls on The Hoe before combatting the Spanish Armada.

Western Europe’s largest naval base – HMNB Devonport – is in its natural harbour, and in The Barbican fishing boats bob up and down by cobbled streets lined with historic buildings. Jacka Bakery here is the oldest in Britain and there are plenty of galleries, bars and restaurants, though Union Street has the best nightlife.

At one end of the street is the Theatre Royal, and from the other ferries depart to France and Spain, passing the Mount Batten peninsula and offshore rocks that once housed Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse, now in Hoe Park next to the Royal Citadel.

Overlooking the park is the Lord Mayor’s residence, once home to Waldorf and Nancy Astor, and other street and building names are reminders of Plymouth’s illustrious connections.

Other attractions include the National Marine Aquarium, the City Museum and Art Gallery and Grade II-listed Saltram House. All are easily reached from Booking.com’s Plymouth accommodation, including luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap guest houses and country houses with parking.

The Hoe, Barbican (hopping over to Cawsand Beach by ferry) and the amazing Tinside Lido Swimming Pool were perfect to hang out. Plymouth is not as touristy as Exeter but a great base to get to many amazing sites around Devon, Dartmoor and the coast.

having served in the Royal Navy and being based at Devonport, Plymouth holds a very special place in my heart and I visit as often as I can. There is so much to do there from the coastline to the moors to the historic areas. I never get tired of coming to this city and wish I could get there more often.

If you can appreciate a city - then Plymouth is great.

If you can appreciate a city - then Plymouth is great. The Barbican area which is a marina is stunning. All walkable from the Copthorne Hotel. We are 66 yrs old so we had a train trip to Exeter and two separate boat trips around Plymouth harbour.

Great range of shops, a short walk to the hoe from the train station, lots to explore around there, lots of open space for a picnic on the grass, lots of seating and views of the sea. A great range of cafes and places to grab an ice cream. Take a walk up Smeaton's Tower! The Box in the city is a great free museum with the Woolley Mammoth too.

Lots to do in Plymouth - the aquarium is amazing with fascinating indigenous fish to greet you at the start. Catch a ferry over to Cawsand and explore Rame Head which is fun and you may see dolphins on the way. The Hoe is famous (Sir Francis Drake was playing bowles here when the Spanish armada appeared round the corner! Even the shopping area has improved with lots of wild grasses and flowers to take it up a notch from its former sh*thole status!
