Edmonton is very typical of a larger prairie city. It is spread out, but easy to travel on the major roadways. It is lucky to have the North Saskatchewan River run through it which brings great parks and greenery to it.

We went to Edmonton in February on a whim for a holiday. Of course it was cold but as long as you are prepared for it, it is fine. We even enjoyed outdoor activities. The roads are quite confusing so GPS was a must for us. We enjoyed a hockey game, West Edmonton Mall, the Conservatory, the RAM, and the zoo. And Jasper National Park is only a 3 &1/2 hour drive away. Close enough for a day trip where we saw lots of wildlife.

Everthing was very good. All the staff we talked to were friendly, helpful. The rooms were cleaned always and towels changed when we left for the day. Great place to stay when here in Edmonton. Hotel has everything that is needed, rooms were clean and comfortable, staff was very helpful and friendly. The room service and food was very good.

    Everything was great.

Everything was great. Only complaints are that I booked for 2 people and had to call and ask for more towels each day, and wanted more coffee, sugar and cream. Have to pay for the bottles of water in the room.

We visit the area often, but rarely stay in a hotel. This was an easy drive from YYC and very close proximity to the wedding venue: River's Edge Devon. A Yellow Taxi took us there and back for normal mileage (and a handsome tip both ways). They were prompt, courteous, and safe both ways. Of course the airport access can't be beat, and the shopping options and easy access to the Henday, Gateway, etc. are all convenient.

The street grid system is a bit confusing, and many of the streets are under construction right now (mid-Sept), but Edmonton holds more charm than most other large Canadian cities. The older neighbourhoods are real communities, with churches, outdoor rinks, and "mom and pop" type shops that you don't seem to find anymore in places like Calgary, for example. Downtown is filled with older, modest buildings and parking remains fairly cheap. The stylish new arena and nextdoor skyscraper seem a bit out of place in this town. There are good places to eat everywhere you go in Edmonton, including some excellent Indian and Chinese restaurants. I recommend the take-out at New Indian Sweets & Restaurant on the corner of 99th St and 63 Ave. (The shwarma restaurant in the same strip mall is also good.) Guilin Noodle House in Chinatown serves a nice bowl of noodle soup at a good price. Unfortunately, a large part of downtown is run down, especially in the Chinatown area, where there are many abandoned, grafitti-covered buildings and vacant lots. I observed open drug use and many homeless people sleeping in the streets. As in Vancouver, the drug users generally keep to themselves. It is a shame, though, to see so many disadvantaged individuals living in the streets near the Rogers Centre, that shrine to capitalism and wealth.

Staff was great, bedroom and common areas were very clean, location made it easy to navigate the city and there was lots of shops/restaurants/bars close by. The LRT was about a 20-minute walk away and busses to downtown/West Edmonton Mall are a block away and run every 15-minutes or so. I also had a double-occupancy room to myself for all five nights which was lovely.

The hotel was the best value for the price. This hotel was one of the lowest at the price but it was also the cleanest I have seen in Edmonton so far. Free parking. Good location. Proximity to route 2 was plus. Breakfast was decent but at least it was there. The lady at the checking counter was super sweet.
