We'll definitely want to test them, I'm just not sure about shipping them to the main repos considering the CLI is very much in flux at this point.

👍 Indeed no rush in transitioning to 2.9.x - marked the PR as draft for now.

I think we have everything covered now and all the pieces are in place.
The only think I'm still unsure of is if the alternative apt frontends, e.g. nala and synaptic will need to be rebuilt as part of this update.
