This gives us the ability to more-efficiently review a PR asynchronously. It's an "approved with comments" type of approach.

Possible reasons for using this approach:

  • "These are my thoughts when seeing this code, if you haven't considered it, may be worth revisiting before landing."
  • "These suggested changes are trivial (e.g. naming) and I don't want to see this PR again."
  • "These suggested changes are optional." This could be for any number of reasons such as: splitting into a separate PR, existing state is a refactor to something and is strictly an improvement and shouldn't be blocked on a deeper refactor, is a matter of opinion, or any other reason at all.

The person receiving this review is expected to use their own good judgment if they make changes that should be revisited by the original reviewer.

The goal of this approach is to enable us to consistently move forward on our efforts 24/7 and take full advantage of our time zone situation.
