Abseil bazel build fails on Apple M1 (ARM64) #954

Describe the bug

I'm on a Mac mini M1 (ARM64), and when I bazel build Abseil I get an error:

$ git rev-parse HEAD
a9831f1cbf93fb18dd951453635f488037454ce9

$ bazel info release
release 4.0.0-homebrew

$ bazel build ...

Steps to reproduce the bug

Important You'll need a Mac with an M1 chip.

  1. Checkout Abseil head. For me that was a9831f1
  2. bazel build ...
  3. error

On a Mac Mini M1
