AnimeSnap helps you to identify the anime episode or even timestamp just from a screenshot of any scene from that episode. It uses a powerful trace.moe API to find results. With just a screenshot, you can get:
- The Anime name
- The episode
- The timestamps (start to end) where the scene from the screenshot is shown
And much more if you check Include All Details. It will also show multiple results with a percentage of accuracy.

Note
The software has been developed and tested using Python 3.12.1 and Python 3.4.0. The minimum required version to run the software is Python 3.4. Although the software may work with previous versions, it is not guaranteed.
AnimeSnap can be installed easily as a PyPI package. Just run the following command:
pip3 install AnimeSnap[qt-version]Where qt-version can be either qt6 or qt5 depending on which PyQt version you want to use. Therefore, we can either run:
- For PyQt6:
pip3 install AnimeSnap[qt6] - For PyQt5:
pip3 install AnimeSnap[qt5] - For PyQt4 (not recommended): Check the Qt4 installation section.
Important
For best practices and to avoid potential conflicts with your global Python environment, it is strongly recommended to install this program within a virtual environment. Avoid using the --user option for global installations. We highly recommend using pipx for a safe and isolated installation experience. Therefore, the appropriate command to install AnimeSnap would be:
pipx install AnimeSnapIf you prefer, you can directly install the package from the repository using pip/pipx:
pipx install git+https://github.com/YisusChrist/AnimeSnap.gitThe program can now be ran from a terminal with the AnimeSnap command.
If you prefer to install the program manually, follow these steps:

This will install the version from the latest commit, not the latest release.

If you installed it using pip/pipx, you can use the following command:

cd AnimeSnapPyQt4 is not available on PyPi and the official documentation asks you to build it locally from source, which is an absolute pain. However, you can find some wheel files for Python 3.4 out there. For Windows, here are some unofficial pre-built wheels:
Just simply run:
pip install -r requirements-qt4.txtNow, you can install AnimeSnap by running:
pip install .AnimeSnapor
python -m AnimeSnapYou can either use an image link or upload an image from your PC. With v2.0, there are 2 new checkboxes. Removing black bars will help to increase the accuracy of the overall results if there are any black borders in your image, though the processing time may slightly increase. By checking Include All Details, you can get all the info that you get by uploading to JSON.
Also, now you can filter results by using Anilist ID. This will help if you know what anime it is and just want to know the scene/episode details. This feature is still in testing so it may not work always.
