I wanted to give another update since things have been progressing slower than I hoped. A lot of features are now being targeted for 0.8.0.

What features to expect?

• A ton of improvements to how sharing works
  • How public API requests are routed. These changes may cause breaking issues. hence the major version update.
  • more link share configuration, like user access
  • group access,
  • one-time-access
  • OnlyOffice and other file viewer support for shares
• full-fledged Google docs or Microsoft office read-only viewer support without onlyoffice needed. (Will require external url accessible to internet)
• directory level access control (for sure this time)
• Customize icon and other branding improvements
• anonymous user access -- not just for shares

When to expect a release?

I am going to add an update notification feature in 0.7.x so everyone can be notified since its not clear how long it will take. I have been super busy lately, but if I get enough time I think I could have it ready this month... but most likely in July.

Will it be stable?

Probably not! Proceed with caution for any release, but especially for major version (ie going from 0.7.x to 0.8.x).

Other thoughts

It's nice to see more people using this and I enjoy the quick feedback on these releases. Please keep doing that!

But please know this is my personal hobby -- its not ready for primetime and everyone has their own idea about what should be added next. For now I don't view this as a "community project" -- because I have a goal. I have certain features and things I want to add before others. Don't feel bad if I leave some issues open without addressing them. I am focused on getting things ironed out so it can be ready for new official contributors, safe releases, and have full feature parity with the original filebrowser.

After 0.8.0, I think it will mostly be a full-fledged upgrade from the original filebrowser. As you might have seen, the OG repo is in dire need of contributors (not that it's anything new)

I view this repo as a great candidate for full replacement for the OG repo -- but its not there yet. I plan to help the OG repo in the meantime, so keep an eye on filebrowser/filebrowser too.
