Drive the development of health facility data in OpenStreetMap through emergency health user stories.
- Run Human Centered Design campaigns to drive the development of the data
- Support stakeholders in the health cluster to share health facility data to OpenStreetMap
- Support collaboration between national health agencies and OpenStreetMap chapters
- Connect multiple data streams to build higher quality data
Healthsites is building a baseline of health facility data with OpenStreetMap.
Healthsites Emergency Health Campaign
The global ecosystem for health site data is heavily siloed and lacking in openness. This means that when international funders need to respond to health crises, or when they are trying to improve the healthcare sector in normal times, expensive workarounds are needed to understand physical health infrastructure in a country.
The creation of an open data policy for baseline health site data, for ministries of health to govern the publication of data, could make healthcare initiatives in LMICs more impactful for local populaces, and less expensive for international funders. The initial policy can be drafted, contextualised and tested in Senegal with the Healthsites team active there, and then genericised as appropriate for global scalability.
The LVI presents the data quality for a health facility.
'As a trusted user I want to publish updates to Healthsites so that I can help to validate the data.'
'As a healthsites.io user I would like to get an accurate representation of data quality so that I can understand the capacity of a health facility.'
The Location Validation Index combines the user status, attribute completion and temporal nature of each update into an LVI score for the health facility.
We plan to use a reputation system where each Healthsite is awarded points that speak to the credibility of the data at that site. Points are awarded based on interactions with the site, and lost when no interactions occur. For example if 100 people validate a site as being correct over a year, we will score the data highly. If nobody validates a site over a time period, it may lose credibility points. Validators will be pluggable and we invite software developers to create new validators.
'As a mobile data surveyor I would like to use an application on my phone to collect and save healthsites data to OSM so that I can help improve baseline health facility data in OSM.'

Support for Master Facility List maintenance.
'As a Ministry data administrator I want to connect to the Healthsites API so that I can use baseline health facility data from OpenStreetmap to help maintain my master facility list.'
'As a Ministry data administrator I want to connect to the Healthsites API so that I can share updates from the Ministries Master facility list with OpenStreetmap.'
'As a healthsite data administrator I want to integrate with a national https://www.dhis2.org/ instance so that I can publish accurate healthsite data'
We will further develop the API to make the data more accessible and useful
