Seoul International District

The Seoul International District Project is a project to develop the COEX and Jamsil Sports Complex areas as a major hub for international business exchange in Seoul encompassing MICE,* culture, entertainment, and sports.

* Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE): A type of tourism in which large groups, usually planned well in advance, are brought together.

– Comprehensive plan

1. Developing a key business space to lead Seoul’s urban competitiveness through reinforcement of MICE and international business functions

• – Expanding MICE infrastructure by connecting COEX, Hyundai Motors GBC, and Jamsil Sports Complex
• – Integration of international business functions by using vacant lots of former public institutions such as Hyundai Motors GBC

2. Securing an open space along the Hangang River and Tancheon Stream as well as creating a global attraction through regional connection

• – Integration of the Hangang River and Tancheon Stream through tunnel boring and creating unique waterfront spaces
• – Sports functionality upgrade of Jamsil Sports Complex and creation of a cultural and entertainment multiplex

3. Enhancing accessibility through transportation infrastructure expansion and establishment of a public transit-based traffic system

• – Introduction of a metro railway below Yeongdong-daero and establishment of a comprehensive transfer system
• – Securing a ground urban management method considering the characteristics of metro railway users
