@lizlynch

When I tested, the feature “Update column name” is repeatedly giving me the following error. Initially I thought , the reason is , I am using it in a fairly large app. But when I tested on a small sample app, the error persists.

The GIF below captures the error.

Are there any other settings that I should be doing or missing anything obvious one. My request will be to inform the development team if it is a genuine error.

I will request community colleagues to update if they have successfully used this new feature and if there are any obvious steps that I am missing.

@Suvrutt_Gurjar - Apologies for the inconvenience! I did a very simple test and didn’t encounter an error. I’m going to share your comment with the dev team. But I might also suggest you also contact AppSheet Support so they might investigate the error in your particular situation. Thank you for reporting!

I am experiencing the same error.

@JMPeterson - Thank you for reporting and apologies for the inconvenience. I’ll open a ticket internally.

Thank you @lizlynch for taking it up with the dev team.

I have also logged a support ticket with case ID 1-3121000038182

The support team mentioned that they have escalated it to the specialist team.

In one of the apps I am working on , I need to change the names of several columns for a specific business reason. So any faster resolution of this feature’s seamless working will be great.

I also hereby update that when I tested this feature on a freshly copied sample apps, it did work. I of course did this fresh testing after you mentioned that the feature worked for you.

However, unfortunately, it is not working in all the apps I am trying it on.

@lizlynch ,

The solution provided by Support team did not help.

They asked to reconnect the table(s) where the 'Update column name" feature is not working. I did so and still the problem persists.

The next step if above does not work recommended by support team was totally impractical. They asked to create a new data source sheet containing only column headers and attach this as a new data source.

Such a solution totally defeats the basic non working of the feature. The feature is provided to save some column renaming time to the app creator. The above step of adding a new data source does not help at all in terms of saving time.

As such I request you to update the dev team to continue to look into why the feature works with certain apps/tables and not with other apps/tables.

@Suvrutt_Gurjar I’ve updated the internal bug for the dev team. Frustrating that their advice didn’t help.

@lizlynch ,

May we know if there is any plan to address this issue by the development team?

If we know that they have some ETA on this issue, I will hold on to some major changes to a suite of apps where I need to change multiple columns names in one app and in other app’s where the same columns are used.

It will be a large manual effort as AppSheet drops the column settings including column type on manual name change. So I am waiting to hear any updates on this issue being addressed on priority.

@Suvrutt_Gurjar - I know that they have been investigating this issue, but no resolution just yet. I sent an inquiry to see if I can get an ETA.
