Hi,
it would be awesome if dpkg-dev would support this nativly.
cheers,

Hi,
I'm currently regularly building kernels on a 24core machine which is really
nice as it's fast but then it's not as fast as it could be as most of the time
is spent tar'ing and zip'ing the resulting debian packages.
So I would like to use pbzip2 or pigz to make use of all the cores for this
too. But this doesnt seem to be straightforward. #517249 would be one way to
achieve this, another would be make dpkg-source use it directly. I'd prefer
the latter.
Any other approaches I'm missing?
cheers,
Holger

I'm merging with the already filed bug report, because the request
seems confused. The time spent when building kernel packages rests in
dpkg-deb not dpkg-source, and native source packages or *.(debian|diff).*
source packaging do not tend to be huge, so I'll assume the request was
for binary and not source packages. Thus merging the requests.

Guillem

Hi Guillem,
thanks for following up on these bugs! And for maintaining dpkg in the first
place! :-)

actually this was about source+binary packages, the kernel sources are
sufficiently large that it does make a difference whether to compress with one
or many cores.
