/etc/default/exim4 is a conffile that is directly managed by the
package's maintainer script. dpkg does not know about such files, and
dlocate doesn't know about this as well.

Closing the bug, as this seems to be a dpkg limitation. Please advise
if there is a way to register maintainer-script managed conffiles
(contrary to dpkg-conffiles) with dpkg so that they show up in dpkg
--listfiles and dpkg --search.

He says it appears to be a dpkg limitation.
All I know is lots of files in /etc/default can be found by dlocate,
the rest is over my head.
