Version: 2.4.2-3
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***
* What led up to the situation?
Upgrade from bullseye to bookworm
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
First of all, the printer drivers for my printer (Kyocera FS-C5250dn) were not
anymore available in the printers list. The original Kyocera PPD files were
still present in the file system. I chose them by browsing the file system.
Although the printer was now identified as capable of doing CMYK and it was set
to color in the cups browser interface. I also tried to change the setting in
printer.conf a) by hand to printer-color-mode CMYK and I tried the command
lpoptions -p Kyocera -o printer-colormode=CMYK.
* What was the outcome of this action?
It did not work, the printer still prints only Black & White and I am not able
to change the setting in printer.conf.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
For sure I want my color printer to print color again.

Subject: Color Laser-Printer does only print in greyscale after upgrade to
Debian 12
Date: Sat, 22 Jul 2023 13:54:46 +0200
Package: cups
Version: 2.4.2-3+deb12u1
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
here is the same problem with a Kyocera ECOSYS P5021cdw that works
perfectly in Debian 11, but with the same settings after the upgrade to
Debian 12 it is only possible to print in greyscales.
Every settings are set to color but it is only possible to print in
black and greyscales!

Probably you are hitting this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1971242
The bug is fixed upstream in CUPS 2.4.3 and later and I have created 2
Stable Release Updates (SRUs) for Ubuntu Jammy (CUPS 2.4.1) and Lunar
(CUPS 2.4.2). So you could try these fixes and they could perhaps also
get applied to Debian.
Bug reassigned from package 'cups' to 'cups-filters'.

Sorry for the late response.
The lpadmin workaround does not work on my PC.
After trying this workaround another printer "Kyocera_ECOSYS_P5021cdw" has appeared and it was possible to print one page in color.
Now two printers can be seen in CUPS, as you can see in CUPS-2.png.
Trying to print with the second (above) one fails with the message in CUPS-1.png, that is saying "The print job was not accepted".
The first (original configured) printer only prints in greyscale.
When an important document has to be printed I must boot Debian 11 on another partition.
This is really annoying!
It seems that there is no solution for this CUPS package.
What must be done to install the old CUPS from Debian 11 in Debian 12?
