Be it known that I, KoNRAD MALOHER, a citizen of the German Empire, and residing at Gleiwitz, Silesia, German Empire, have invented a new and useful Improved Tipping Truck, of which the following is a description.
The present invention relates to that class of trucks known as tipping or dumping trucks in which the body of the truck is adapted to be tipped on the under frame to empty the contents of the truck at the side of the track and the object of the invention is to provide simple means for tipping a truck of comparatively great capacity. In order to attain this object the body of the truck is advantageously of rectangular form and both body and underframe are designed to allow the body to be first turned horizontally on the frame to the extent of about 90 and then tipped endwise to one side or the other of the track, so that one end boa-rd or door of the body being removed the whole contents of the truck will be projected out at the side of the track.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of the present specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of the truck showing the under frame in vertical section, Fig. 2 is a plan view of the under frame, Fig. 3 is an end view of the truck, Fig. 41 a similar view partly in section showing the body in the tipped position and Fig. 5 a view, seen from underneath of the body of the truck.
The body a of the truck is advantageously of rectangular shape and is provided with removable end walls secured in any well known manner. It may also be provided with doors in the sides, as illustrated in Fig. 1, for purposes of loading from the side. A plate I) is secured to the bottom of the body a, having a crown of downwardly projecting teeth i thereon and being provided with a central downwardly extending pin 0 adapted to engage a corresponding orifice or recess in a longitudinal girder or beam cl, on which the truck body is advantageously supported on a set of ball bearings 65. The underframe of the truck consists of the two end frames 9, g of a breadth about equal to that of the body a and having suitable bearings for the axles and wheels of the trucks, and a pair of longitudinals h, h to connect up the said end frames. These longitudinals are kept comparatively close the said shaft 76' a worm wheel Z is mounted.
with which a worm m on a transverse shaft n engages, the said transverse shaft 11. being also mounted in the end frame 9 and having its ends squared or otherwise suitably formed to receive a crank handle by means of which the shaft may be turned to rotate the pinion 75 at the body of the truck on the underframe, in a horizontal plane.
The two ends of the longitudinal beam (Z are formed to trunnions c, e fitting sockets f, f one on each end frame g, g. The said beam d is furthermore provided with toothed segments 0, 0 keyed thereto and with which engage pinions p, 79 mounted on a shaft q, supported in suitable bearings, in a longitudinal direction in the underframe. A worm wheel is mounted at the outer end of the said shaft g, which wheel engages a worm 8 formed on a shaft 6 mounted transversely in the underframe and having its ends squared or otherwise formed to receive a hand crank lever by means of which the shaft may be rotated. The truck is manipulated in the following manner When it is desired to tip the body of the truck to empty the same a crank handle is applied to one or both ends of the shaft 11., the pinion 7c is rotated by means of the worm gearing m, Z and the body of the truck is swung around by means of the crown of teeth 71, in which the pinion engages, to the extent of about 90 or at any rate far enough to bring the sides of the body clear of the end frames g, g. Then crank handles are applied to the shaft 6 and the latter is turned so as to rotate the beam 02 on its trunnions e, c by means of the worm gearing 1', s, the toothed segments 0, 0 and the pinions p, 79. By this means, the body of the truck may be tipped endwise to either side of the track, according to the direction in which the shaft 2% is turned, as will be readily understood.
In order vto facilitate the movement of the body a of the truck in the horizontal plane, rails or tracks u, u may be provided on the end frames 9, g and suitable rolls (not shown) may be mounted underneath the body of the truck.
The employment of the worm gearing for both movements of the truck body obviates the necessity of any arresting devices, since the truck body will remain in any desired position, immediately the rotation of the shaft in question a or t is stopped.
The truck may also be tipped for loading purposes, for very heavy goods, in cases where no goods loading platform is provided, the goods being slid up the inclined bottom of the truck and the latter then readjusted in position on the underframe.
I claim as my invention 1. A tip truck comprising an underframe having a pair of wheels at each end, a beam pivotally supported longitudinally intermediately of the said pairs of wheels, a truck body movably supported on said frame and a vertical pivotal connection between the said body and the said beam, means for rotating said truck on said pivot consisting of a crown of downwardly extending teeth mounted on the bottom of said body and a driving pinion in engagement therewith mounted on said underframe and means for tipping the said body endwise intermediately of the wheel pairs substantially as described.
2. A tip truck comprising an underframe for the wheels and a truck body movably mounted thereon, said underframe consisting of two wheel supporting end frames and an intermediate frame portion narrower than the said end frames and adapted to connect the same rigidly together, a beam having end trunnions pivotally supported longitudinally in the said underframe, a downwardly extending pivot on the said truck body supported in the said beam and means for rotating said body on-its pivot and said beam on its trunnions substantially as described.
3. A tip truck comprising an underframe to carry the wheels and a truck body mov ably supported thereon, a crown of downwardly extending teeth on .the bottom of said body and a central downwardly extending pivot on the same, a shaft mounted in the said underframe having a pinion to engage said crown of teeth, shaft and worm gearing to rotate said pinion shaft, a beam pivoted longitudinally in the underframe in which said truck body pivot engages and means for turning said beam on its pivot after the said body has been swung around horizontally on its pivot.
4. A tip truck comprising an underframe to carry the wheels and a truck body movably supported thereon, a crown of downwardly extending teeth on the bottom of said body and a central downwardly ex-V tending pivot on the same, a shaft mounted in the said underframe having a pinion to engage said crown of teeth, shaft and worm gearing to rotate said pinion shaft, a beam pivoted longitudinally in the underframe in which said truck body pivot engages, toothed segments fast on said beam, a shaft mounted in the underframe beneath said beam and pinions thereon engaging said segments, and shafting and worm gearing supported in said underframe, to rotate said pinions in either direction substantially as described.
