CHRISTIAN W. MALI, OF NEW BRIGHTON, PENNSYLVANIA DRAIN-BOARD.
Specification of Letters' Patent. Patented Julie 13, 1911.
Application filed October 6, 1910. Serial No. 585,646. v
T0 at Z whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN V. MALI, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Brighton, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drain- Boards; and 1 do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in drain boards.
The object of the inventionis to provide a d ain board pressed or otherwise formed from a single piece of porous or non-porous material having an improved means for attaching the same to'a suitable support, and in engagement with a sink.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination andarrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accon'ipanying drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of a drain board constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the same applied to a sink; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the drain board; Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the same; Fig. at is a vertical longitudinal sectional .view thereof; and, Fig. :3 is a cross sectional view of the same; Fig. 6 is cross sectional view of a modified form of the board show ing the same provided with a corrugated rubber mat.
Referring moreparticularly to the drawings 1 denotes my improved drain board which may be of any suitable size and shape and constructed 'of any suitable 'inaterial which may be pressed i to the desired formation. The board is ere shown and is preferably of oblong shape and is preferably formed of wood fiber, straw board, cork or similar C(JmPOSllLlODS'bUt which may be fori'ned from pressed steel or iron. The board when thus formed will be non-porous and may have applied thereto paint, var
nish, enamel or any other coating. The
board has formed therein a series of longi-' of the board is preferably reduced in width and is curved downwardly to a slight extent or otherwise shaped as shown forming a flange as at 4, to fit over the upper edge of the sink. The bdard is braced and strength ened by a series of transversely disposed cleats 5 which are secured to the under side thereof in any suitable manner. The sink engaging end of the board is prevented from being accidentally lifted off the sink edge by means of plate springs 6, 6, secured to the under face of the board and terminating at a short distance from the flange 4, so that when said flange is engaged over the edge of. the sink, the springs will engage under the rim of the sink. The outer end of the board is supported upon a bracket 7 which is secured to the wall or other support and has formed in its upper edge slots or offset apertured lugs 8 which are adapted to be engaged by books 9 formed on the ends of attaching plates 10 secured to the under side of the board as shown. By thus securing the outer end of the board to the bracket said board is supported and firmly held against disengagement from the bracket.
In Fig. 6 of the drawings the board is shown as formed with a flat upper side to which is cemented or otherwise secured a rubber mat which may be plain or flat on its upper side or provided with any suitable shaped projections or corrugated as shown in the drawing. i
A drain board constructed in accordance with my invention will be'san tary, easy to keep clean and will present a neat attractive appearance. From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,
the construction and operation of the invcntion will be readily understood without requ ring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended. claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A drain board provided at one end with a downturned flange to engage over the edge ofa sink, means for supporting the-opposite end of the board. comprising brackets attachable to a permanent support and provided with horizontally slotted rojecting lugs, in testimony whereof I have hereunto set hooks secured to the under ace of the board my hand in presence of two subscribing witadapted to engage in the slots of the lugs, nesses.
and plate springs secured to said under face CHRISTIAN W. MALI. 5 terminating at short distance from the down- Witnesses: i
turned flange to engage under the rim of the G. B. ANDERSON,
sink. E. C. TRUXALL.
