specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. d, 1910.
Application filed October 19, 1909. Serial No. 523,388.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN W. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful 'Improvements in Buffers, of which the followmg is a specification.
This invention relates to buffers and more particularly to means designed to be connected to furniture or the like whereby it will be protected and prevented from coming into contact with the wall.
An object of my invention is to provide a buffer adapted to be held on the spindle of the casters of furniture to prevent the sanlole from coming intocontact with the we I do not wish to be limited to the exact form of construction illustrated, the same being subject to slight modifications without departing from the scope of the invention.
lVith the foregoing object in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a caster having a form of my improved buffer attached; and Fig. 2 shows a modification of my improved buffer attached to a caster.
. In the form shown by Fig. 1, a plate 11, is adapted to fit over the upperpart 12, of the caster frame, said plate having portions 13, adapted to be bent down over the edges of. said caster frame, whereby the plate is prevented from being displaced. Other p01: tions 14, of said plate are bent down over 1 the arms 15, of the caster, preventing latera displacement, and terminating in barrel-like sockets 18 and 19 for'receiving and retainmg the rubber bufi'er 20. This bufi'er is shown with a wire 21, inserted, which is preferably of spring metal; but it is to be understood that my invention does not depend upon this wire asan essential feature. The spindle 17, of the caster passes through an aperture 16 in the said plate, thereby preventing every possibility ofits dislodgment. Fig. 2 illustrates a disk 22 having an aperture 23 concentric thereof through which is passed the spindle 2a of the caster. Upon the outer periphery of this disk is formed -a rim 25 which forms a socket adapted to receive the rubber'bufling means 26. It will be seen that this disk is adapted torotate around the'spindle and will come into c'ontactwith the wallor with the article of furniture no'matter in what position the caster may be.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple protector for furniture, or for walls. It will be readily ap preciated that other similar forms, not shown or described, may beconceived and used for analogous purposes.
I claim- 1. In a buffer, the combination with a caster having a shank, of a disk rotatably mounted thereon, said plate having an annular seat formed in its periphery and a length of resilient material secured to said plate.
2. In a buffer, the combination with a caster having a shank, of a plate having an aperture therein to receive the shank whereby tlie' plate may be rotated on the shank, said plate having a peripheral seat and a band of resilient material in said seat.
T J OHNW. CAMPBELL.
