VACUUM SUPPORTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 5, 1910.
Patented Dec. 2'21. 3W6.
Serial No. 553,676.
The invention contemplates providing the usual cup with auxiliary means which automatically and constantly exert a pressure against the scaling edge. to hold the same in contact with a surface, said means being also adapted for suspending or siq'iporting articles.
in carrying out the objects oi the invention generally stated a hove it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are ncpazssarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the :uzconipanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a top plan View of the in) proved vacuum supporter. Fi 2 is a Sec tional View taken on the line" A A, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in elevation. of the supporter.
Referring to said tltitiilllli'lillhVlilg drawings by numerals, l designates a fiatsurlace to which the cup is attache Said cup is preferably or rubber and provided with a head 3 and. the fiat. sealing edge 4. A sup porting arm. 5 is embedded in head 3 and its ends beyond opposite p tions of said head. 1 Tiaidnrm is preferably olt spring metal and is preferably provided with a hook 6 from \'vhich. articles may be suspended, the other end of said arm terminating in a spiral spring 7. From spring 7, the length of material from which said arm and springs are formed'is bent to form a circular loop 8 \vhich'is of substantially the same diameter as the scaling edge 4 of cup 2, said loopheing seated. upon edge 4; and held there by the tension of spring i.
In use, the cup is attached to surface l in the usual manner and when attached, it will be seen that spring 7 causes arm :3-t'o exert a lifting pressure on head 3 and loop 8 to exert a pressure on sealing edge 1; tend; .ing to flatten the same against the surface to which the cup is attached.
Vhat I claim as my invention is I 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a vacuum cup, of resilient means :arried thereby and exerting a urcssure on the edge thereof to hold said cup in contact with a su iporting surface.
2. In a device of the character descrined the combination with a vacuum cup provided with a head and with a. sealing edge, of a supporting arm carried liy said head, a loop seated on said edge, and a spring connecting said arm and loop mnd exerting a pressure tending to force said arm and loop in opposite directions. q I I 3. As a new article )i 1non1' "'acti'ii'c. a vacuum cup provideu with head and a scaling edge, a supporting arm carried by said head, a loopseatcd on said edge, and a spring connecting said arm and loo said arm. spring nd ioop torincfl of a single length t1'csiiiei1t nict al.
