To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that-I, BARCLAYT. TRUE- nnoon, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kirkland, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Knife, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to knives, and more particularly such as can be easily folded, and each of which consists of a handle, a blade holder pivotally secured to the han dle, and a removable blade adapted to be mounted in the blade holder, the blades that are used for this purpose being preferably the partly usedor discarded blades'of the ordinary safety razor.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described, simple and serviceable inconstruction and inexpensive to manufacture, which, when closed, is of convenient size to be easily carried in a pocket, and which employs the discarded blades of a safety razor.

Reference is to be had to the accompany ing drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. l

Before proceeding to a more detailed description of my invention, it should be understood that I provide a knife which, as before mentioned, consists of, or includes, a handle and a blade holder pivotally secured to the handle. The blades which I preferably employ with my device are the partly used or discarded blades of the ordinary safety razor. A blade can easily be mounted in the holder, and when it becomes dull through use, can be removed and another substituted therefor. In this manner, I provide a knife which has removable blades, the latter although having become too dull through use to be of further value in shavin being sharp enough to be used with my evice, as knife blades.

In the specific form shown in the draw ings, I provide a handle body 1 having a tongue 2 integral therewith. The latter has a constricted portion 3, for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The body 1 has an opening 4 which can be used for securing of the constricted portion 3 of the tongue 2,

as shown most, clearly in Fig. 3. Further, a rivet 8 extends through the sides and the tongue 2 and serves to hold them together. I also provide a blade holder 9 having the end 10 located between the sides '5'of the handle and held in place by means of a pivot pin 11. The lower edge 12 of the portion 10 tests against the constricted part3 of the tongue 2, the latter acting as a springto keep the holder in place and to prevent its closing too easily. The portion of the holder which receives the blade has flexible sides 13, the latter being inwardly bent so that when a blade is in position, the sides will press against the same and hold it firmly in place. The holder further has an extension 15 which is upwardly bent so that it will engage the lower outer end of the blade 14 to keep it from slipping out of the holder, as shown most clearly in Fig. .3. To secure the enlarged portions 6 of the sides 5 to the body 1, I provide a rivet ring 17, which, by means of its outwardly disposed edges, serves to hold the parts firmly together. Fig. 5 is a plan view of an elongated blank from which the blade holder 9 is formed and which has one end bifurcated and provided with lateral extensions 10 each having an opening 11 extending therethrough. At the'opposite end of the holder is the transversely elongated opening 16. .The extension 15 is located at this end of the holder. In forming tlie blade holder, the blank is bent upon itself along its center so that the openings 11 will register to receive the pivot pin 11. The extension 15 is upwardly bent so that it will constitute a keeper for the blade.

It should be further understood that it is often preferable to break the razor blades in half before using them, so that they will fit the holder more conveniently. To remove the irregularities due to the breaking of the blades, I provide a kerf 18, located on the handle of the device, in which kerf one blade at a time can be inserted and the irregularities clipped off.

Having tktus described my invention, I claim as new .and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A knife comprising a handle having an enlarged and apertured body provided with a tongue, sides having one end'enlarged to correspond with the body and arranged on opposite sides of the said body and tongue, the enlarged ends of the sides being rovided with apertures registering with t e aper ture of the body, and a rivet rin in the apertures of the sides and bod an having its edges bent outwardl against the said sides, and a blade carrie by the handle.-

2. In a device of the class described, a handle having spaced sides, a body between said sides, said sides and said body having registering openings, a rivet ring in said registering openin and havin the. edges outwardly disposed against sait i sides adjacent to said openings ofsaid sides, said body having a resilienttongue extending longitudinally of said handle, a blade holder pivoted between said sides and enga ing at the end of said resilient tongue where y said blade holder can be held inan operative (position .and an inoperative position, an a. blade removably carried by said holder.

3. In a device of the class described, a handle, and a blade holder ivotally secured to said handle, said bla e holder being formed from an elon ated blank bent upon itself to form spaced resilient sides, said blank having one end bifurcated to form a recess when. said holder is completed, said handle having a resilient tongue adapted to en age said recess to maintain said blade holder extended when the device opened.

4. In a device of the class described, a handle, and a blade holder pivotally secured to said handle, said blade holder being formed from an elongated blank bent upon itself to form space resilient sides, said blank having one end bifurcated to form a recess when said holder is completed, said handle having a resilient tongue adapted to engage said recess to maintain said blade holder extended when the device is opened, said blank having at the opposite end an extension laterally disposed when said holder is completed, to form a stop for securing the blade within the holder.

5. In a device of the class described, a

handle, and a blade holder ivotally secured to said handle, said bla e holder being formed of an elon ated blank having one end bifurcated and aving laterally disposed extensions, each extension having an opening therein, said blank further having an elongated, transverse opening at the other end thereof, and an extension, the latter, when the device is in the finished form, serving to limit the longitudinal movement of a blade.

In a device of the class described, a handle comprising a body member, having a tongue and being substantially annular in form; sides adapted to be secured to said body member, and each having an openin adapted to register with the opening 1n said body, means in said openings for securing saidsides to said body, further means for securing said sides to said ton e intermediate their ends, and a blade ho der adapted to receive a razor blade, said holder being pivotally secured to said handle so that, when folded into an inoperative position, it will lie partly between the sides of said handle, said holder further having resilient sides ada ted to revent the lateral movement of a b ade' held therebetween, and further be ing furnished with means to limit the longitudinal movement of the blade.

7. A blank for a blade holder comprisin an elongated body having one end bifurcate and provided with lateral and apertured extensions and provided at its other end with BARCLAY T. TRUEBLOOD.
