Be it known that I, Bn'r'rni H. `MoDoN- ALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in r1`elesco ingHolders for Matches, of which the fo lowin is a specification, referenceV being had to t e accompanying drawings. l

The invention comprises an extensible rod consisting of three telesco ing sections 1, 2, 3,`the outermost section 3 heing preferably solid and adapted to slide within the section 2 while the latter Vis tubular and adapted to slide within'the tubular section 1. In the outermost section 3 is a socket 4 in which the stem of a'niatch M may be frictionally retained. v
For the urpose` of holdin the sections 1, or telesco ed positions, two spring catches 5 are provi ed, one of said catc es being carried by the outer end of the'iiiner section 1 and the other. by.

i v other or free end an inwardly extending V- .shaped portion? adapted to project through an openin 8 formed Ain the section on which the catch is securednnd to also enter openings 49 :formed in the co-actin telescoping section, adjacent its ends, as eariy shown in Fig. 3 of the'drawings. it will be seen, by constructing the catches as set iorth, that the sections may be readily extended by pulling them apart and also collapsed by pushing them together, and that when either entended or collapsed they will be retained in such 4position by the engagement oi the portions7 of' the catches with the openings or seats 9.
In usin the invention, the sections of the rod or ho der are eitended, as shown in Fig. 1,' a" arlor match is ignited and its stein place in the socket 4, whereupon the operator holding the innermost section 1 of the device in one hand and at anarms length from his body, -brings the dame of the matchv in .contact with the dash sheet or other' charge of dash-1' ht powder whichis to be ignited to provi e the necessary light for makin a flash-lightexposure. It will be understood that the device when its sections are extended, is of such en h that the operator may stand at a 'safe tance from the Hash sheet or other Hashl-ight charge when it is ignited.
From the fore oing. it wili be seen that the invention provies an' exceedingly vsimple and ractical device of this character which ma produced at a small cost and which wil -be exceedingly convenient to carry ving a socket to receive by certain of said sections and. each spring 1 catch consisting of a lea sp having one end secured sind its other end formed with a V-shaped \rojection to enter kee er o enings an retain the secoiisin eit er t eir extended or telescoped position.
