NEW? YORK, A CQRPUBATEON NEW" TRIPLICATE SALESBCOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 12,
Application filed August 26,1907. Seriai No. 380,125.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM G. Wilson, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New tain new and useful Improvements in Triplieate Sales-Books, of which the 'followingis a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' This. invention relates to counter salesbooks and in a more specific relation thereof to triplicate books.
One of the objects contemplated is the provision of an inexpensive construction permitting rapid manipulation.
Another and more specific object is to enable an operator to efficiently withdraw an is shown the original and duplicate record together.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafte The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will beexemplified in the construction set forth, and the scope of the aplication of which will be indicated in the ollowing claim.
In the accompanying drawings wherein preferred embodiment of my lnvention; Figure l is a perspective thereof, Fi 2 is a plan View.
imilar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout bot-h views of the drawings.
The general character and objects of the invention will be in a large measure apparent from the drawings without further discussion preliminary to the specific description thereof. It may be primarily noted,
however, that a triplicate counter salesstructions characterized by slowness of manipulat-ion and multiplicity of operating movements. Accordingly anything which will tend to reduce the cost of manufacture and simplify the process of manipulation is of great advantage both to the maker and employer.
York, have invented oer-1" cover is secured to the bot-tom portion 3 by 6 may be described.
This
The simple and convenient organization of my device accomplishes the objects contemplated.
Referring now tQ Fig. 1 the illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown with. the elements thereof in substantially the normal relation which they have prior to use. At 1 is shown a pad secured by a clip 2 to the bottom portion 3 ofthe cover which is provided with a side flange a broken away at either end. The upper portion 12 of the a suitable back in the usual manner. In the figures the top portion is shown open, in which position the book is ready for The pad 1 comprises a series of record sheets 5 .2? 11Cl another series 6. The sheets 6 cone prise, as shown more clearly inv 2, original and duplicate leaves or portions 1 4% secured together along a weaken d double faced transfer sheet 9 or cured to a backing 10 at the be is adapttd to lie upon and snbst the leaf 7 of sheet 6, record a W adapted to lie upon carbon sheet 9,,
sheet 6 being folded over and lying uponsheet 6 when the book 18 to be used and record made. The portion 7 of sheet 6 is connected along a weakened line to a stab portion 11, as indicated in Fig. 1. Ace-or ingly record sheet 6 may be entirely removed in one operation by grasping the portion '6', as indicated inFig. 2, and tearing it, to gether with portion 8, from the stub port-ion 11 along its weakened conneetingline.
The mode of operation for which the invention is articularly adapted will be clear from the oregoing, but the preferred use After the book has been prepared with the carbon sheet 9 interposed between leaf 7 of the record sheet 6 and the record sheet 5, leaf 8 of the record sheet 6 being folded thereupon as indicated in Fig. 1, the book is in condition for use. A record having been made the thumb is slipped under the transfer sheet 9 to grasp the portion 7 of the record sheet 6. The entire sheet is then readily withdrawn. Sheet 5 which is to remain in the book is thrown back, together with the carbon sheet if de sired, and the book is then read Y to be pared fora second record. Instead of seve"- in the portions 7 and 8 of the record sheet 6 from the pad by two operations, with consequent loss of time to the salesman and dc lay to customers, these portions are removed intact and sent to the desk for separation and disposal in accordance with the practice hereinbefore indicated. v
lVhen not in use the top cover 12, together with the leaf portions 8, will, of'course, be folded over upon the portion of the pad which is attached, to thebottom portion 3 of the cover. I
It will accordingly be seen that I have provided a construction which is simple and inexpensive and which obviates the defects and accomplishes the objects, among others, hereinbeforementioned. The fact which is especially applicable to apparently simple constructions should be obvious, that various changes in detailend in construction of parts may be made, that elenients may be substituted or other changes' made in the construe: tion illustrated which might materially change the appearance thereof while still involving the ideas and "appropriating the utilities suggested by the invention herein disclosed. It 'vis'accordingly desired that the language used be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limitin sense.
Having describeo my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1-- In a device of the class described, in combination, a pad comprising two sets of sheets, the sheets of one set each comprising eeaeoe a plurality of leaves of substantially the same width, one of the leaves of each sheet being provided with a stub portion to which it is united along a weakened line the other leaf of each of said sheets extending later- I ally from its associate leaf, to the edge of which it is united alonga weakened line, the sheets of the second of said sets being interleaved with said first-mentionedfleaves and extending between the stub portions thereof, a cover comprising top and bottom portions united to one another and adapted to be folded one above the other, each of said 01- tions being of substantially the same width as said leaves, means securing said pad to one of said cover portions wlth the free lateral edges of said first-mentioned leaves adjacent the outer edge thereof, whereby when 'the top portion of the cover is in open 051- tion said second-mentioned leaves are a apted to extend over and lie above the same, and a double-faced transfer sheet mounted to be interposed between any one of said secondmentioned sheets and the leaf portion immediately thereunder. t
In testimony whereof affix my signature, in the presence of two wltnesses.
