residing at l\ lanhattan, in the. county of Nye and State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful .lm n'orements in Clasps, of

which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to improvements in clasps for holding pen holders, pencils and the like in the pocket of a vest or other garment.

The object of the invention is to provide a snnple and practical device of this character WlllCll may be produced at a small cost from a single piece of resilient sheet metal and scribed and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clasp; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the device showing it applied; and Figs. 3 and 4 are longitudinal and transverse sectional views.

The improved clasp is preferably formed from a single piece of resilient sheet inetaland comprises two clasp members 1, 2, one to engage the pen holder, pencil or other article and the other to engage the edge of the pocket of a vest or other garment or the edge of any other receptacle or holder in which the article may be placed. The clasp member 1 is in' theform of an open band of substantially circular-shape, while the member 2 is of substantially U- sh ape and projects at right angles from 'one edge of the band at its closed central portion. Said member or-band 1 has the extremities of its spaced ends or arms slightly bent, as shown at 3, to provide two jaws which bear against the pen holder H or other article to frictionally retain said member 1 upon it. To render this clasp member 1 more eflectcuryed longitudinally, as shown, so as to project lnwardly and form extra clamping ject in opposite directions from the. jaws I,

and are disposed substantially opposite the latter so that the two sets of jaws provide four points of contact for the clasp member 1 around the pen holder or article ll. This construction, it will be noted, gives the clasp member 1 an effectivefrictional locking engagement which will hold the device at any adjusted point on the pen holder but. at the sametime will permit the device to be readily adjusted on the same according to the depth of the pocket or receptacle in which it is placed. v

The clasp member 2 is formed by bending a strip or tongue, which projccts from and is, preferably, integral with the band or member 1, upon itself to provide two arms or jaws 6, 7. The inner arm (5 is short and has a slight longitudinal curvature and also an inclination away from the clasp member or band 1. The tongue or jaw 7 is also curved or bowed longitudinally and is made long so as to project across or below the member 1 and to have its lower portion extend downwardly from said member. whereby the member 2 may be readily. engaged with the edge of a pocket or receptacle by pressing inwardly with one finger upon the upper end of the member 2 and thereby so as to provide a rounded edge which will not cut or otherwise injure the edge of the pocket when the device is engaged with or dis engaged from the same. The peculiar construction of the clasp member 2 causes it to effectively engage the edge of the pocket to retain the holder or other article 1 therein but at the same time permits the device to be easily and quickly disengaged from the pocket without injury thereto.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the invention provides an exceedingly simple clasp of this character which may be produced at a small cost, which will be strong and durable in use,which may be readily -adjusted on a pen holder or other article to gaged with and disengaged from theipockt without injury thereto.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:

1., A device of the character described comprising an open band of resilient material forming an article engaging member, the ends of said band forminga pair of clasp jaws, a second pair of clasp jaws formed by slitting the intermediate portionof the band and bending the tongues formed by theslitsinn'ardly, said second pair of jaws projecting in a direction opposite to that of the first mentioned jaws, whereby the article within the member will be frictionally clamped at four substantially equally distant points.
