To all whom it may concern:

of Middletown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Care tridge-Pockets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such` as will enable others skilled in the art. to which it apper tains to make and use the same. i

This invention relates to improvements in cartridge pockets `such as are employed on woven-fabric cartridge belts,-`-the object of the present invention being to provide a cartridge pocket having a partition to adapt the pocket for the reception of two clips of cartridges, and to effectually reinforce the `.bottoms of both of the compartments thus formed. j

A further object is to provide a divided cartridge pocket having its bottom portion reinforced to preventl the penetration of pointed projectiles, `and to utilize the fabric partition to form a cover for one of the compartments of the pocket.

A fabric strip 3 is located within the pocket 2 against the reaiwallthereof and issecured to the said. rear wall near'the upper edge thereof by means of eyelets 4 or in any other suitable manner. The upper portion 5 of the strip 3 which extends above the pocket is .made `somewhat wider than the portion within the pocket and constitutes a flap or coverfor the latter. This flap or cover 5 is provided with one member 6 of a fastening` device, the other member 7 of the latter being located on the outside of the pocket. -The lower end of the strip 3 extends over the bottomof the pocket and its free edge is secured to the front wall of the latter. Before the strip 3 is placed in the pocket, a reinforce S of wire cloth, leather or other material capable of resisting the penetration of pointed projectiles, is secured to the rear face of said strip 3 -in proximity to the end thereof within the pocket, so that when the strip is secured in position, as above explained, the reinforce 8 will become disposed over the bottom of the pocket and under that portion of the strip 3 which extends over the bottom of the pocket. The reinforce thus located will prevent the penetration of pointed projectiles through the bottom of the pocket and that portion of the strip 3 over the reinforce will serve as a cushion to prevent the rattling of the projectiles against Vthe reinforce when; the latter is made of metal.

VA fabric partition 9 for the pocket extends upwardlyfrom the lower portion of the strip yond the top of the pocket, constituting a flap or cover for one of the compartments formed by the partition and this flap or cover is pro vided with one member 11 of a fastening device, the other member 12 of which is secured to the cartridge pocket. The partition 9 and cover 10 thus formed serve to confine a clip of cartridges closely within one compartment of the pocket, while the cover 5 will close the other coi'npartment and also confine thc cover 10. As the cover 10 is held in place by the cover 5 the fastening devices 11-12 for the cover 10 may be omitted.

In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4, a fabric tube 13 closed at its lower end, projects upwardly from the lower end of the strip 3. One wall of the tube 13 projects above the cartridge pocket and forms a cover 14 for the compartment of the pocket which is affected by said tube. The other wall ofthe tube terminates a short distance below the' upper edge of the front wall of the pocket and is secured thereto. A reinforce 15 is'located under the lower end of the tube and the lower portion of the strip 3 so as to be disposed over the bottom of the pocket and serves to prevent the penetration of projectiles through the bottoms of both compartments of the pocket.

Having fully described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,-

1. The combination with a cartridge pocket, of a member secured therein, said member having;y a part extendingover the bottom of the pocket and also having a part proj ecting above the pocket to form a cover, and a second member projecting upwardly from the lower portion of the iirst mentioned inember and forming a partition in the pocket, said second member projectingv above the pocket and constituting` a cover for one ofthe conrpartmentsVoil the pocket.

2. The combination with a woven fabric cartridge pocket, of a woven strip secured to the rear wall of the pocket and extending` above the latter to form a cover for the pocket, aireinforce secured to the lower por tion ofk the strip, said lower reinforced portion of the strip extending over the bottom portion of the pocket and secured at its end to the front wall of the latter, and a partition in the pocket extendingl from the reinforced portion of the strip and projecting` beyond the top of the pocket.

3. The combination with a cartridge pocket, oi' a strip secured therein and having' a portion disposed over the bottom of the pocket, a reinforce secured to said strip and disposed between the same and the bottom oi" the poel-zet, said strip having an extension forming,` .a cover for the pocket, a partition for the pocket projecting upwardly from the lower portion of said strip, and a cover for one oi' the compartments formed by said partition, said cover constituting an eXtension of said partition.

4. The combination with a cartridge pocket,fof a stiip secured therein and having a portion extending` over the bottom of the pocket and a portion projecting` above the pocket and constituting a cover for the latter, and a partition secured to thelower portion of the strip and dividing` the pocket into two compartments, the upper portion of said partition extending above the top oi" the pocket and constituting a cover for one oi" said compartments, and fastening` devices for said covers.

5. The con'ibination with a cartridge pocket, of a strip secured therein, a reinforce disposed over the bottom portion ol" the pocket and secured to said strip and means projecting` upwardly from the lower portion orc the strip and dividing the pockets into two compartments, said dividing means and the strip projecting above the pocket and constituting covers for the compartments thereof.
