To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM I-I. Sor-rwmann, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Iiiaryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in riting-Pens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in pens, the object being to provide a writing pen which will write a maximum number of letters without refilling, having to a limited degree the qualities of a fountain pen, while at the same time it is a pen which may be used with an ordinary pen-holder.
With the foregoing object in view, my invention consists in a pen made from a single piece of material being provided with an integral wing bent to form a cylinder open at both ends, the cylinder being provided with a plurality of perforations therein, that the air within the cylinder may be readily excluded therefrom when the pen is inserted into the ink, thereby causing the cylinder to become filled with the ink to a greater degree than it would be otherwise, as more or less space within the cylinder would be taken up by the air therein contained, to the exclusion of the ink, thereby lessening the carrying or holding capacity of the cylinder.
WVhile I have shown the pen provided with the perforation as a preferred form of my invention, nevertheless the pen as shown in the modified form owing to the cheapness of cost at which it can be manufactured and to its efiectiveness of purpose, it is rendered almost as desirable as that shown in the preferred form.
My invention further consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, all of which combine to hold the ink and pay it out as it is required in the operation of writing, and which will be more particularly pointed out and described in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pen; Fig. 2 is a blank from which the same is made; Fig. 3 is an elevation of the pen; Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 5 is a cross section on line XX of Fig. 8, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a modified form.

being preferably rounded at one end where it enters the pen-holder and pointed at the other end. It may be made in various shapes and styles. The pointed end 1 has the usual slit 2, and orifice 3, the slit dividing the point into the nibs 4.
At one side of the body part and integral therewith is provided a wing 5, the said wing being pointed at 1 slit at 2 thereby dividing the pointed portion 1 into nibs 6. The wing 5 is formed into a cylinder 7 which cylinder is perforated as indicated at 8, the cylinder being formed by bending the wing 5 inwardly and downwardly from the point indicated 9 adjacent to and flush against the concaved body part A to a desired depth, thence outwardly and convex edly, and thence downwardly again toward the opposite edge of the body part A, thence upwardly from the point 10 and outwardly with the free end edge 11 of the wing adjacent to and flush against the opposite wall of the said body part. The nibs 6 of the wing 5 are tapered and are bent inwardly, as shown, until the nibs are extended well down toward the point 1 of the pen and under the nibs 4 thereof, in order to supply the ink evenly to the respective nibs of the pen and thence to the point thereof. In this way a pen is formed which carries a large supply of ink, which ink is made to flow gradually along the point of the pen, the orifice, the cylinder, and the perforations in the cylinder, contribute to hold the ink, while the nibs 6 tend to feed and distribute the ink evenly to the respective nibs 4 of the pen and thence to the point 1 of the pen as fast as required in writing.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6, I have provided a pen with a single cylinder 7 formed from a single integral wing 5, from the blank as shown in Fig. 2; the cylinder not being perforated or is the point 12 slit. A pen thus constructed while not as effective of purpose as that shown in the preferred form, is none the less a practical pen and very efiicient results may be had from its use.
Slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction as herein set forth, but
Having fully described any invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A pen of the character described, comprising a body part provided with a perforated integral side wing, the said Wing beingpointed on the lower end thereof, and having a slit separating the point into nibs, and formed into an opened" ended cylinder beneath the under side of the said body part, with the said nibs extended *well' down and under the point of the-saidbodylpart, substantially as described.
2.
