To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JULIUS 0. MAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Mirrors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 1

This invention relates to improvements in mirrors.

The object of the invention is to provide an arrangement of mirrors, one of which is adapted to be adjusted and tilted above the v other to rovide for the reflection of objects into the ower mirror which cannot be seen by the other mirror alone.

With this object in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a set of mirrors constructed and arranged in accordance with the invention; and Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the adjustable mirror elevated and tilted to reflect objects into the lower mirror.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes a supporting stand which is here shown and preferably consists of a base portion, 2, arranged in the form of a box or compartment to receive one or more drawers, 3, in which may be kept toilet accessories or other articles. The base 2 is provided with an upwardly and rearwardly inclined top, 4, in which is arranged a stationary mirror, 5.

At the o posite rear corners of the base 2, are secure vertically disposed uprights or posts 6, on which are slidably mounted tuular telescoping posts 7 which are adapted to be slipped uand down on the osts 6 and are preferably eld or supported in their ad justed position by the frlctional engagement thereof with the posts 6. The upper ends of the tubular posts 7 may be provided'with knobs or other suitable ornaments 8. Pivotally mounted at its opposite sides, substantially midway between the upper and lower ends of the tubular posts 7, is an upper mirror 9, which is adapted to be tilted forward to any desired position to reflect objects into the lower mirror 5.

When the mirrors are arranged as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, the upper mirror 9 is alone used in the ordinary manner. When it is desired to see objects above ones head, or which cannot be seen in the mirror 9 when in the position shown in Fi 1, the tubular posts 7 and the mirror 9 are slipped upwardly on the supporting posts 6, to the desired height, after which the mirror 9 is tilted to the proper angle to reflect the objects into the lower mirror 5, where they may be readily observed. This arrangement of mirrors provides for the seeing of the top and back of a persons head, and thus greatly facilitates hair dressing and similar operations.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention may be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

A device as described, embracing a desklike base-member having its top surface inclined downwardly and forwardly toward the user, and provided therein with a mirror facing upwardly, said base-member having fixed thereon at its outer corners, opposite standards, and slidable tubular standard-members arranged adjustably upon the aforesaid standards, said slidable standard-members having hung between them a mirror, said slidable standard-members being adapted for frictional retention in adjusted elevated position and said latter mirror adapted to be angularly disposed to the aforesaid mirror, as when said tubular standard-member is adjusted in its elevated position.
