AUGUST ALBERT SACK, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
' WHORL FOR CAP SPINNING-FRAMES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1907.
Application filed April 9. 1906. Serial No. 310,596.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUeUsT ALBERT SACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I/Vhorls for Cap Spinning-Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to whorls, particularly to those intended for use on cap spin ning frames, and has for itsobject, besides the ends commonly sought in devices of this character, a structure which shall be light, present a minimum of frictional bearing surface to the supporting disk or cap, and which shall possess capacity for lubrication, in short to attain a maximum of work with a minimum of power.
To the above ends my invention consists in the novel construction of whorl base hereinafter described, and set forth in the accompanying drawings, wherein,
. Figure 1 is a vertical central section of my novel structure and adjacent mounting parts. Fig. 2, a side elevation of the whorl, and Fig. 3, a plan of the base of the same.
Like reference letters indicate like parts throughout the views.
My invention is illustrated and described in conjunction with the familiar parts of a cap frame.
A is the spindle fixed in the frame, B, and supporting the cap C; D, the sliding rail provided with the usual lubricating chamber, E, for the spindle, A F, the disk with its upper portion circularly recessed, at f. Resting upon the disk is my novel whorl, G, which will now be particularly described, supporting the usual spool, H.
In detail the whorl, which is indicated in a general manner by G, comprises the head, 9, provided with the belt flanges, g, and in which is mounted the spindle sleeve, g The lower or hearing face of the head is provided with a circular recess concentric with the opening for the spindle, whereby is formed an annular recess, 9 in the base of the body and below the lower extremity of the spindle tube. The recess, 9 of the whorl body furnishes a receptacle for lubricating material.
In actual operation, lint naturally accumulates interineriliate the disk and whorl body which may be advantageously satu rated with oil and form an admirable lubricant for the parts. If the natural accumulations are insufficient for this purpose, an additional supply of lint or other absorbent material may be added within the recess. Oiling of the parts is necessary only at great intervals.
Having described my invention what I claim is,
1. In a cap spinning machine, the combination with a bearing disk having its upper portion circularly recessed, of a whorl having its lower flat face resting directly upon the upper edge of the surrounding wall of the recess, a spindle passed through said disk and whorl, the lower face of the whorl having a recess coincident with the recess in the disk, and a spindle tube in said whorl and terminating at its lower end above the recess in the base of the whorl.
2. In a cap spinning machine, the combination with a bearing disk having its upper portion circularly recessed, of a whorl having its lower flat face resting directly upon the upper edge of the surrounding wall of the recess, a spindle passed through said disk and whorl, the lower face of the whorl having a recess coincident with the recess in the disk, a spindle tube in said whorl and terminating at its lower end above the recess in the base of the whorl, and a sliding rail provided with a lubricating chamber independent of said recesses.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' AUGUST ALBERT SACK.
