FASTENER FOR REFRIGERATOR-DOORS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 24, 1907.
Application liled pril 18. 1907. Serial No. 368.941.
T o (LZ2 whom 'it may concern.' l
Be it known that I, Louis G. Coon, a eitizen of the United States, and a resident of g Pueblo, in the county of Pueblo and State of Colorado, have invented certa-in new and useful Improvements in Fasteners l'or Reirigeraton-Doors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in door fasteners and consists in certain novel eenstruotions and lcombinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation of the outside and Fig. 2 an elevation oli the inside of a door provided with my improvements. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on about line 3 3 oi' F ig. 2. Fiff. 4 is a cross-section on about line li-/l ol' big. 2, and Fig. .3 is a detail section on about line 5-5 of Fig. i2.
The door A is hinged at A and dits in its door-iranie B in the manner common to refrigerator and similar doors. The door is provided with a shaft C having a crank handle or lever D at its outer end outside the door and provided at its inner end at the inner side of the door with a lever E which may be extended at E to forni a handle so the fastening devices may be operated at the inner side of the door if so desired. On the inner side of the door near its swinging edge and its opposite ends, l pivot between their ends-.the bolts F Whose outer ends may be swung beyond the edge of the door to engage uon the inclined surfaces G of the wedge b ocks G which blocks are secured to the door frame in position for engagement by the outer ends of the bolts F so that when the bolts are swung to the position shown in Fig. 2 they will bein engagement with the lieveled wedge lblocks and will draw the door tightly into its frame 'forming a close joint as desired especially in refrigerator construe tion.
At their 'inner ends the bolts F connect with links Il' and Ii', the link ll connecting maybe operated thereby. 'lhe link ll con- "deponds thence and pivots at its lower end to the link llf ata point between the opposite pivots oi the link ll soit will he operated by the lever IC through ,the said link ll as will he understood 4from thc: l'ull and dotted linesl Fig-2. Stops l. and i limit the movements and when thelinks are operated to set the bolts to locked position they stand in alineinent as shown in Fig. 2. It will be noticed that the outer handle D is so arranged that you lift or pull up on said lever in closing the door which operates to lift the door so it will close easily.
The wedge blocks are preferably slotted longitudinally at G2 and secured` by screws G3 passed through said slots so the wedge blocks may be set to any desired position and firmly secured in the use of the invention. While the two fastening bolts are on the inner side of the door and independent it will be noticed they are operated jointly and from the outer side of the door by a single lever. All of the fastening devices are arranged at the inner side of the door and are exposed and convenient of access for any desired purpose. As best shown in Fig. 3 the upper and lower wedge blocks both slope .in the same direction and are thinnest at their upper ends so the action of the bolts therein will exert a lifting tendency on the door in fastening the saine as before de scribed.
I elaiml. The combination of a door frame, Wedge blocks having longitudinal slots, screws passed through said slots and securing the blocks adjustably to the door frame, a door iitted to said frame, a shaft in said door and having a lever at its inner end and a handle at its outer end, bolts pivoted between theirl ends to the inner side of the door near its opposite ends and arranged at their outer ends to engage upon the wedge blocks, a link'pivoted at one end to the inner arm of one of said bolts and at its other end to the lever at the inner end of the shaft, and a link ivoted at one end to the inner arm of the ot er bolt and at its other end to the first said link, substantially as set forth.4
2. The combination with the door frame having the wedge blocks and the door fitted to said frame ol' opposite bolts pivoted to the door and engaging upon the wedge blocks, an operating lever on the door between the bolts, a link pivotcd at one end to one of the bolts and at its other end to the lever and a link pivoted at one end, to the other bolt and extciu'led at its other end past the lever and..v
doortted thereto, bolts pivoted to the inner face of the door, a lever connected with and operating said bolts, Wedge blocks having lon `t1r1d1nal slots, screws passing through sai slots into the door frame, and securing thewedge blocks adjustably thereto and in position for engagement by thebolts on the oor, substantially as set'forth.
4. The combination of. a door frame, a door tted thereto, wedge blocks secured to the door frame, bolts ivoted to the door in `position to engage t eir respective wedge locks7 operating means between said bolts, and'intermedatedvices between the bolts and operating means substantially .as set forth.
5. The combination with a doorand piv oted bolts thereon oi links pivoted together and also pvoted independently to their re spee'tive bolts, and means between the bolts fort 6. The combination of aA door lframe, upper and lower wedge blocks thereon and sloping in the same direction with their thin'ends upward, a door itted to said frame, bolts on the door fand engaging upon the Wedge blocks, and means for operating the bolts,
substantially as set forth.
7. The combination of a door frame, upper and lower wedge blocks thereon, a door, 11pper and lower bolts on the door and arranged to engage their respective wedge blocks, an operating lever between said bolts and'links intermediate the said bolts and `operating lever; substantially as set forth; ,A o
