FRANK A. BRENNER, OF GLEVELAND, OBI-15D.
EGG-IBEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented semi 24, 1907.
Application filed December 27,1906. Serial No. 849,686
others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in egg beaters. The object of the invention is to provide a beater constructed and arranged in sucha manner as to permit of the removal of a broken whip or beater wire without disturbing the rest of the'whips orbeaters.
A further object is to provide an egg beater which will be simple, strong and durable in construction, efficient in operation and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. I
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:Figure 1 is a side view of an egg beater constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 isa longitudinal sectional view, showing, one beater wire or whip arranged in place and the manner in which the same is fastened; and Fig. 3
is an end view of the beater handle with the whips or beater wires removed therefrom.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 dcnotes the egg beater, consisting of a hollow handle portion 2 which is preferably cylindrical in form and has on its outer end an enlarged hollow head 3. On the end of the head 3 is formed an inwardly-projecting annular flange 4 having formed therein a serie. of longitudinally-disposed holes 5.- On the outer end ofthe handle 2-is formed a rectangular enlargement 6.
Adapted to be inserted through the hollow handle 2 is a fastening bolt 7, on the outer end oiwhich is formed a flat circular head 8, which when the bolt. is in place is adapted to fit within the opening formed by the arinular flange 4 on the end of the head 3. The opposite or inner end of the bolt 7 is threaded and projects beyond the enlargement 6 on the opposite end of the handle, and on said threadedprojecting end of the bolt is adapted to be screwed a clamping nut 9. Said nut 9 is adapted to be screwed down on the bolt 7 and into engagement with the enlargement 6 to draw'the bolt into the handle. On the nut 9 is formed an upwardlyprojecting apertured lug or ear 10, by means of which the beater niay be hung up.
' 'Arranged on the outer end of the bolt within the enlarged head 3 of the handle 2 is a cylindrical clamping block 12, theside of which adjacent to the inner end thereof isbeveled to form a heater or whip clamping surface 13. Adapted to be secured in the outer end of the handle 2 is a series of beater wires or whips 14, each of which is formed of a wire rodobent to forms. loop 15.
The inner ends of the wire-rods 14 are adapted to be inserted through the apertures 5 in the flange 4 of the head 3 of the handle, the inner ends of said wires 14 being bent inwardly to aslight degree, as shownat 16, said inwardly-bent ends being'adapted to be engaged with the inner end of the clamping block 12. The iods 14 adjacent to the inwardly-bent ends 16 are adapted to be engaged and clamped between the beveled surface 13 of the block 12 and the adjacent inner side wall of the head 3, so that when the bolt -7 is drawn in-- wardly by the clamping nut 9, the head 8 of said bolt will force the clamping block into the head'3', thereby securely clamping or binding the inner ends of the beater wires orfwhips in place. There may be any suitable number of heater wires provided, twelve of the same being shown in the present instance. The ends of each wire engaged with thehead 3 are inserted through diametrically-opposite openings 5 in the flange 4. The beater wires are preferably arranged in pairs.
The wires of .each pair are of a different length froin the other pairs so that when all, of the wires have been secured in the handle, said heater wires will present an appearance such as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. By thus arranging and securing the heater wires in place any one or more of the same may be removed or replaced without disturbing the rest of the wires by simply unscrewing the clamping'nut 9 to loosen the bolt 7 and the clamping block 12, after which a broken who will readily drop out, the remaining-wires being held in place by the spring action of the wire and the minor details of construction may-be resorted to with-.
out departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:-
An egg beater comprising a tubular handle provided at its forward end with a hollow head, a clamping bolt extended through the handle and provided at its forward end with a head, a clamping block arranged on the bolt in rear of its head, a series of whlps having their ends projected into the hollow head and clamped between the wall of the latter and the clamping block and a tension nut applied to the rear end or the bolt and operable for drawing the clamping head to clamping position, said nut being provided with a perforated projection forming a hanger for the beater.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK A. BRENNER.
