vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to shade and curtain holders and has for its object to provide a holder which will be extremely simple and cheap and which will be readily adjustable to suit windows of different widths, another object being to provide a holder which may be held in position by means of simple fastening devices.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, and it will be understood that modifications of the specific construction shown may be made, and any suitable materials may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings forming a portion of this specifica tion and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure ,1 is a front elevation of a holder embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation partly in section.

Referring more specifically to the drawings, the present invention comprises a back board 5 extending the full length ofthe window frame and which, at its end portions 6 and 7 has its upper and lower faces 8 and 9 beveled rearwardly and toward each other to give the end portion a dove tail shape in cross-section. The middle portion of the backboard is left intact in order to give it a broader bearing against the window-casing.

Curtain and shade supporting brackets 10 are provided, each of which comprises a vertical rearward portion 11 and a forwardly and upwardly extending hooked portion 12 which form pole supporting brackets. Below the hooked portions 12, the supporting means have forwardly extending projections 13 for a purpose to be presently described, and in their rearward edges the supporting brackets. The said brackets 10 are disposed With the dove-tail end portions 6 and 7 of the back-board slidably engaged in the dove tail slots 14 for movement of the supporting brackets toward and away from each other upon the back-board. The members extend a considerable distance below the backboard as well as extending thereabove, as shown, and between the hooked members 12 and the portions 13, the members have perforations 15 formed therein which communicate with the dove-tail grooves 14 for the re ception of screws 16 which are operable to impinge against the back board 5 to hold the supporting members at different points of their movement thereupon.

The hooked portions 12 extend forwardly of the projections 13 and lie with their bight portions 17 in a plane forward of that occupied by the projections 13, and these bight portions are adapted for the reception of a curtain pole 18 which is thus so disposed that a curtain attached thereto will hang downwardly in front of a shade roller 19 which is engaged between the projections 13. The shaderroller is supported by brackets 20 of the inside type which are secured against the inner surfaces of the projections 13.

Supporting devices 21 consisting of threaded stems have their outer end portions turned upwardly, as shown at 22 are provided, and these devices are disposed with their threaded portions engaged in the upper portion of the window frame to which the present invention is to be attached. The back-board?) is then engaged with these supporting devices, the brackets 10 extending vertically, and by reason of the fact that these brackets extend below the back-board, forward tilting of the holder under the weight of curtains supported thereby is prevented. Besides the back-board and all parts connected therewith including the curtain on the curtain pole and the shade on the shade-roll, can be removed by simply lifting the said back-board off its hooked supports.

What is claimed is 1- A device of the class described comprising a removably supported backboard having dovetail end portions, curtain and shade supporting brackets having dovetail slots in their rear edges slidably engaged with the dovetail portions of the back-board, with their rear faces in the plane of the rear surface of the backboard, means for clamping the brackets in adjusted position on the backboard combined with the window casing and hooked supports connected therewith adapted to receive and support the backboard.
